Is excessive Logging , hurting the bear pop in your area

Ardent,

While I was doing air inventory of some Quebec hunting zones/management units a few months ago some of our Quebec pilots mentioned firefighting in BC. Asked if they recognize your name. Shame they didn't, but I bet you've been on the same fires nonetheless.

Bc rainforest old growth is unique and nothing really comparable to other parts of Canada. Shame most of the wood goes overseas.
When I lived in the Fraser valley old guys told me they had logged all the way to Hope before they had steam power idk, I remember visiting old growth close to the border, even the stumps in secondary forests are pretty amazing. Central Ontario used to have massive white pine forest but they’ve been gone for a long time.

Little different sending old growth to China then Balsam fir for Christmas trees from the east coast to other parts of canada

It is a small town this industry, so if you don’t know em you know somebody who does. Something like 3000 working rotary pilots in the country and maybe a quarter of those at most do BC fires. Definitely a “growth industry”, firefighting in recent years.

I bet the hardwood forests out east in the 1700-1800s were impressive in its own right. People have just been in central Canada much longer, and all that’s known there is the new normal. Much of Canada is really meant to burn, for sure, but much of BC is evolved to be fire resistant mature forest.

Even the stuff around the hot spots inland like Lytton, Lillooet and Ashcroft which is really a desert are supposed to have large stands of 400 year old fire resistant Doug fir, like the one in the pic above. The healthy old growth is extensive in BC, or at least it was, far beyond the rainforest areas and into the arid areas. After that heading north you run into the combustion reliant ecosystem.

There’s no debate we’re changing things hard and fast, the debate is just if it’s worth it, in the BC coastal regions.

Figured it must be quite a small world!

The forest industry doesn't employ the amount of people it once did, not even close. After watching Timber West Mill closure where I was employed and seeing the barges of raw logs going down the straight for export. It's not worth it imo. There's no sawmills left on Vancouver Island north of Nanaimo and all the pulpmills are gone as well.

Hi Pete
It's sad . I have flown over Van island many times to go fishing on the west coast . The destruction is hard to look at . Bear's die in this

Even in ugly old Alberta the effects of logging are obvious. Go for a walk in Sundance park where its all original old growth trees. Its a completely different world. The creeks run clear like you could drink them, the lake is clear.
Logging completely screws up the run off. Eventually it’ll wreck the ground aquifers.

What excessive logging?
"Excessive logging" means "I have MY house, the rest of you can go live in a cave". This has been an entertaining thread (in a train wreck kinda way). My Dad hunted in BC all of his life, mostly in and around the lower main land but also in the interior and up north. Always said "if you want to shoot a bear, go to a cut block". Everyone I knew "back in the day" hunted cut blocks for bears because the bears are drawn there for the ample food supply. Same with deer.

leave your house and see . or u must cut trees for a living ?

Will you be sending threatening PMs to everyone who doesnt agree with you or just pick out certain ones? If you ask for opinions after starting a thread and get ones that your not in agreement with, two choices, dont ask for others opinions or respectfully discus like an adult without throwing a tantrum. Calling people stupid or drunks or whatever else youve thrown at them makes you ?? Well. Cheers Chris

hunting bears .. if you don't like it stay away.. trying to argue AGAIN ..pls put me on your ignore list..comprehension is not your attribute

If you know how to send threatening pms you surely aren’t dumb enough to not find the hunting sub-forum. Or are you? Shirley??

Have a Bud Light and relax a bit.

you're right I will .There seems to be about 6 or so trouble makers on here and they constantly ruin threads and derail to their ditch .. It's sad
and true ... If the don't like it stay.. away pretty simple
Look above ... very smart post from an adult ?
