hey folks. i'm new to wildcats so pls be gentle.

i'm looking at the 30 arx (also called major, gorilla, gremlin) - it's a 6.5 grendel necked up to run a 30 cal bullet. has 59% more case capacity than the 300 blackout. like the grendel it is mini action and same parent case as the 7.62x39 - ie my intent would be to get it to work in an ar180 clone

reloading seems easy enough - just run a 30 cal expander through your grendel brass and trim as necessary.

curious about the barrel - i'd like to use a 7.62x39 barrel as a starting point - is it just a matter of rechambering with a grendel reamer?

as all this would handloaded i'd use 311 bullets to match the bore.

I wouldn’t limit yourself from the start with 0.311” Dia. Bullets. Unless there’s a specific model of rifle you have already as a starting point I’d be looking into a 308 as a starting point or sourcing a true 30 cal blank.
 
i was looking to do it on the cheap with a wk180 clone in 7.62x39. i would be limited by the barrel and bolt it came with. i think ibarrels mix and match of 308, 310, 311, etc., depending on which one you get. depth of chamber would be set by the bolt when headspacing. i've already got all the grendel reloading gear so would only need the neck die or fake it with a 306 FL die.

so if it is just a matter of rechambering with a grendel reamer then i guess i gotta find a gunsmith with one or rent/borrow one and go it myself.
 
the idea with the rebated rim would be to run it in a 180 platform on a 7.62x39 bolt (as opposed to up-sizing the bolt face to .473 and weakening the lugs). you would be able to fit more powder than in a 30 arx but unsure if you could really take advantage of the extra space (before blowing things up). perhaps i'll get the arx up and running and work up some loads. if not fast enough i'll take the chamber out to 30 br and see what happens.
