For the guys using these.
I have a set on a 14 inch remington 870 and am struggling a bit getting slugs zeroed. Currently have the elevation pretty high on the rear and the windage pretty far left and I'm still printing low and right. Zero distance is 25 yrds. Using truball slugs.
Any tips? What are you guys using for a zero distance and what slugs are you using?

There is a reason why Remington is using a front sight ramp for all ghost ring sighted and rifle sighted 870s.

Rear ghost rings have only so much travel for adjustments and that is sometimes not enough.

And in these cases a higher or lower front sight is the solution.

With the Remington front sight ramp a different front sight (dovetail sight) with a different height can be installed.

I had to go through this with my custom 870 Police build with ghost ring sights. Took me three tries and to finally get the right height for the front sight. I had to get the tallest dovetail front sight that XS Sights makes and for my gun to zero at 50 meters.

And I have the exact same gun with a parkerized finish ... also an 870 Police ... but that one has a much lower front sight installed and also zeros at 50 meters with the same ammo. Just to say .... that Remington's manufacturing tolerances for those 870s seem to be quite large. Basically, I have 2 identical guns .... but each needs a different front sight height.

Casey from Tactical Ordnance did solder the front sight ramp to my custom 870P.

For slugs, I am using Federal Truball slugs or Federal Deep Penetrators and which are basically Truball slugs with a copper coating. They have shown the best accuracy .... and I have tried many different slugs out of those 2 guns.

That's my next step is adjusting front sight height. My scattergun tech sights were easier to dial in. I just need to shoot more, maybe try another couple brands of slugs

I just learned ... it seems the Vang Comp front sight is adjustable for elevation:

"Front sight is adjustable for elevation with included tool."

It's just a shortened AR15 post with an unreasonably large dot on it. I have a VCS front on my 14" 590A1 with factory Mossberg ghost ring rear and have no problem zeroing. Front was installed by TacOrd and fixed the nasty cant that the oem front had (rear sight was all the way left). I use a Blitzkrieg chevron AR post that's about flush with the VCS sight. Anyways, drop the front post down low and that will be a big help. The windage, however, may be caused by canting.

Doesn’t VCS and Wilson offer different ghost ring sights for short barrels 12” & 14” and separate ones for longer barrels? Are you sure you have the right set for your barrel length, would make sense why you need a shorter front post.

I generally sight in slugs at 15-20m and then at 50m, I use both Challenger’s and Black Goose brand.

The gun is a full VCS done by Casey. I have yet to adjust the front post height I'll try that first then maybe the blitzkrieg sight.
I sent a note to Casey and I will share what he comes back with.
Ideally I think I would prefer a fibre optic front sight if that is available, provided the front post isnt too long.

Update:
Per Casey my front sight post cant go any lower unless I cut some threads so thats my next step to have local gunsmith shorten my front post.
Also ordering the blitzkrieg sight and if I have success I will shorten that and install.

Maybe I missed something but if you haven’t tried to adjust the front sight how do you know that it’s as low as it can go?

Because it's bottomed out and I sent a photo to Casey and he confirmed. Either way, I need to buy a front sight tool and confirm, you're right.

So you can file and shorter the threaded section and lower the post more? Sounds like an easy and quick diy fix.

The sight has the same mounting fixture arrangement as an AR-15 front sight. Threaded hole with an offset bore for spring and plunger. Naturally the sight post can only seat so deep regardless of thread height. The post included has shorter threads already so I suspect he needs a post that is shorter rather and removing threads from it. Unfortunately, the included sight has a white bead on it and may be unsightly to simply grind or cut down. A solid option would be a standard AR post that can be shortened easily.

Danastles, I grabbed a few measurements for you. The front post that was included with my VCS front is from XS and is marked H3 on the backside. It measures .399" tall from underside of flange to top of post. My Blitzkrieg is the chevron style and measures .310". From the top of the VCS sight ears to top of Blitzkrieg post is .202" which has the flange about flush with the sight base. I'm sighted in with 1 1/8oz score slugs at 10 yards. With the XS post my rear sight would probably be about maxed in elevation but I did not sight in with that post. If the Blitzkrieg isn't your style you can also shorten the threads on a cheap A2 post and trim it down if necessary. Keep in mind I have a Mossberg with factory rear ghost ring and not a VCS rear so don't take these numbers to translate to a definite solution on your Rem. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

I appreciate the comments and taking the time for those measurements. I'm going to go back out and shoot on Saturday, start from scratch and shoot 3 brands of slugs. Rem LE, federal truball, and federal blue box. Mayne different slugs will eliminate the need for a new sight post. I also have an rmr on top so ghost rings are the back up. Will update after some more shooting.

Update. I got it zeroed with truball slugs at 50 yards.
My rear sight is 3/4 to the left, and up 6 notches, not ideal. After a brief few shots I was within 3-4 inches at 50. Obviously more shooting to do and I know I can shoot better then that.
As for the flite control buckshot, that stuff is great. Out of vang comp cylinder choke 14inch dlask barrel, hand sized patterns at 20 yards.
I will do some more buckshot patterning with both speeds of flite control, and post the results when I can.
I am also ordering the blitzkreig front sight today.
