Low B.C. High FPS hunting loads.

1) something like a 270win loaded with varmint bullets will wreck a coyote too - 3400+fps with a 110vmax.

2) watch bigger animals pop like gophers? That sounds kinda ####ed up. I hunt for food, for pelts, or to protect livestock, not to kill #### for amusement.

So you have never been out shooting gophers?

I could see a use for a bullet like that, basically let guys use their bigger guns on varmints, without getting the snot pounded out of them. I would enjoy a varmint bullet for 375 Ruger that turns coyotes inside out, we have a surplus of them and they are worthless as far as pelts go, so might as well split them in two.
Send a message to those bastards to leave my calves alone, LOL

Probably wouldn't be a good idea to use such on big game though, as bullet failure would most likely be a guarantee.

As to the earlier comment about not killing for amusement, nothing beats shooting gophers with a 220 swift loaded to warp speed...

Yes. I mastered shooting gophers with an extra fast .22 airgun when I was a young lady; Xi/Xir/Xi'an; boy.

That comment was meant for Suther who claimed its ####ed up to kill for amusement. I don't think many eat gopher(tried, its not very good), and I don't think many keep the pelts, but shooting them sure is great fun on a lazy afternoon.....

1913 Saskatchewan Farmboys used to do stuff that psychological analysts would call serial killer stuff.

Large fireworks vs deer...
Snare vs deer...ect...ect...

Blah blah. 2023 is a meme timeline.

Lol 120 Grain max load .375 ruger vs everything.

Watch out super pigs. Watch out large Wolf Coyote Doberman hybrids.

Just buy cheap bolt guns and burn the barrels out. Lol

My concept was to bring the heat you have into a 11.5 inch SR25 platform.

150-180 grain .40 CT A.I. for example.

Massive speed due to bore. Low flash. High affect inside 600.
Outperforms 993 inside 300 meters with special loads.

Nobody is doing this.

I think Hoytcanon had some custom, short barreled single shot rifles. Big bores, in calibers i had to Google.

First thing that occurs to me would be the need to switch powders. Big case capacity magnums usually use really slow powders, need long barrels so it burns. Typical slow powders would give really slow velocity, unburned granules, and a spectacular fireball. So probably powders faster than the fastest listed in sources.

Saw a guy on you tube using super light copper lehigh .35 cals
In a Rem Mag doing like 3300 fps. Was wrecking everything with it. Hah. 11 inch barrel.

Hmm. .357 magnum powder? H110?

Something else? I don't reload. I just watch people do stuff online. Hah

Nope. No gophers around here.

But don't gopher holes cause problems for livestock stepping in their holes? So protection of livestock would be applicable?

You're missing out. If you're ever in SE SK shoot a pm, We will get you out on a good gopher patch.
Badger holes are more a problem than gopher holes, but I will use that as a good enough reason to justify it.

Yep fast and dirty kills on predators.

Massive stopping power. Most of my gopher and cojote kills were within 100 yards. 200 yards. Never even really 300.

You don’t shoot stuff for your amusement Suther? Sausage or no, that’s what hunting is, you’re not exactly Daniel Boone…

I’m a meat hunter and with you on respecting animals but get real. If it was about meat you could have bought a fair few free range cows for the amount you have spent over the last what, decade? To shoot what 3 big game animals? If it wasn’t for your amusement why didn’t you give up after so many unsuccessful years? Aren’t you planning to drive 800 kms to get a couple chickens worth of meat this spring?

Nobody is doing this.

Hmm wonder why…

While killing is a necessary part it is not the part that I gain my amusement from. Ymmv.

Why not just take pictures then?

Killing is only “necessary” because you chose to do it. Plenty of hiking trails and grocery stores in the lower mainland

If you want to protect livestock I’m sure you can volunteer to fix some fences. They make pelts out of polyester now too

I had a tuned up 243 Rem running 70gr Ballistic Tips at 3600 fps that I used on gophers a few times. The terminal effects were shocking. Basically looked like the gopher had swallowed a 1/4 stick of dynamite. The explosion was so energetic that it left a starburst pattern in the grass. The bits were spread out over about a 30' circle. It was way more impressive than my 22-250 running 55gr hollow points.

I once brought a few dead gophers back for someone who beaked off about us not eating what we killed. Weirdly they didn't seem interested in eating the freshly killed gophers either.

Gopher holes are not very big. But gophers attract badgers and badger holes are dangerous to livestock. A large gopher population can denude a field of grass though. Its quite impressive to see the damage the little buggers can wreak when they are not controlled.

I am not at all a hunter. I am interested in varmint control and that means killing stuff, lots of killing stuff. And yep, it is also good fun. ;)

Yes. Excellent.

Now imagine instead of 70gr Ballistic tips....I gave you super wide 150gr BTs @3400 FPS.

One time I shot a medium sized coyote in the ass from 15 yards away with a .243 100gr Win Super X soft points from a 700.

The thing ripped in half.

Imagine now that scenario at 100 yards with a big bore varmint rig.

At 300 yards a 150 grain .358 WSM or .375 WSM would still be around 2300 fps....in a short tiny package.

Perfect for supercharged 4x4 Hemi hunting in the rolling hills.
( make sure you don't fire from the window). Always get out and walk.

Pretty damn fun.

You can get 200 gr .375 bullets, they are made for the 375 Winchester.

You can get ~ 150gr bullets in .358 caliber, they are designed for handgun cartridges.

Actually I quite like my 17 Fireball. 20gr VMAX at 4000 fps, creates instant kill and zero pelt damage, with no exit hole. 100% energy dump.
