Looking at everybody else's posts, it feels like I'm the only one with the parkerized GI .45. Some have complained about its construction, but I find mine is great. I would love to own a milsurp one day, but the prices are a little out of reach for me right now. Let me know what you think of yours

East03, I started out looking for a GI and I ended up with a Springer Mil Spec; my impressions are I have a hard time seeing the front sight, it bites the hand that feeds it, and its trigger pull is too heavy. Mine is in the shop having these items corrected; it is getting a gold dot front sight, the hammer bobbed, and a trigger job. What I thought would be a short visit to the beauty parlor is now 5 weeks, my gunsmith is that busy. I will file a range report when I get it back. Regards, Richard:D

Seriously, WWII issue 1911A1's are cheaper then a new SA GI......

I find it hard to believe. Unless its a mixmaster / shooter / refinished then they are in $600 - $700 price range.

Original finished examples fetch a lot more than that.

The majority of them have been rebuilt, it's not too common to find an all matching wartime piece. I bought a matching Colt 1927 for $250 a couple years ago, it had a pooched barrel, but $80 later I was shooting the #### out of it.:) You see them on the board here for $500-$600 pretty frequently.
You just have to look around a bit and they are out there priced right.

I like how simple and clean they are. I can see why you like it. How does it shoot?

It shoots fine. Probably close to a thousand thru it since I got it last year. It seems a bit sensitive to certain types of factory loads. Doesn't like American Eagle, loves Remington. I would like to change the grips to just a plain double diamond instead of the ones I have, but that's a small complaint.

Sa "usgi" 1911a-1

In spite of the hokey looking grips with the "US" logo on 'em I think the SA GI pistol is a good representation of the ole USGI 1911A-1.
