Just picked up an SL8

I don't think it is as nose heavy as some people are claiming. Remember, it has a bull barrel. The nose heaviness will be reduced, depending on what glass and mount you put on.

Funny, most people focus on accuracy first, then one shoots accurate, then people say "it is nose heavy".

If life would be perfect, sigh.

I never disputed the accuracy, I have made multiple posts on different threads touting the SL8s accuracy as being probably the best of production autoloaders, at least in my experience. But it's quite nose heavy as is to be expected from having such a chunky barrel, I don't think it's a particularly good gun for running and gunning, but will do quite well on precision matches imo. a well placed optic will improve the balance but it's still a fairly nose heavy gun.

That doesn't align with my experience with the two at all.
I looked for a better mousetrap for service rifle shooting while I was doing it, and that entailed wringing out every autoloader available at that time.

The PE90 (regular 20" Barrel) was second only to a tricked out AR15, and if there were stoppages induced thanks to crappy STANAG mags or other typical AR failings, the PE90 could win on any given day.
It's biggest Achilles heal was that any real pressure applied to the hand guards (and barrel) would affect POI, so the shooter had to be cognizant of that.
It came with a guarantee of 10 rounds into 10cm x 10cm square at 300m and could easily deliver that.
The SL8 is very capable and able to keep up, but I think its a very big stretch to say the inverse is true.

That was my experience as well. Only negative really was the cost. Converting a SL8 ended up being around the same price.

Anyone else's SL8 come with a heavy trigger? They're supposed to be 4.5 lbs but mine is way heavier at 6.5 lbs. It still shoots good despite that but I feel like a better trigger would improve it quite a bit so I ordered the PSG8 stock from TommyBuilt which takes AR fire controls. Gonna see how much the TriggerTech Adaptable improves the groups.

Just checked, first pull was 4.5, then went down to 3.5 after 3 pulls.

Haven't tested mine but I don't think mine is that bad.

pe90 was my first gun, and i didn't realize how superior it was till i i sold it and tried other rifles.
the only semi auto ive owned that came close was a HB xcrm.
the SL8 has been on my bucket list for years, the availability/ money in the bank/ interest in .233 matrix has never lined up.

congrats to the op on the purchase

Hey Armed Ginger - he might have got it off of ###### Armoury in the US - I just bought some stuff from them for my SL8 and they have a ton of Tommybuilt stuff

Anyone know if the 2021 production until now sl8 are even more accurate now that they dropped the chrome lining?

Most accurate semi with chrome but not chromed has slightly more potential.

Now, that is some talent! I know how mine would turn out if I were to tackle a project like that!

Same here. It wouldn’t be good. I seem to recall Fireball was a carpenter at one point. Not just average joe skill set.

I remember one day at the range with that SL8. We slapped a ln Eotech I had on a 22LR AR upper. It was perfectly sighted in for the 55 grain ammo. We were shooting off hand at 25-50 meters and you couldn’t miss. Extremely lucky. Lots of fun.

Couldn't help myself and always wanted to try one of these. Have to say, I was quite surprised with it. All I had was some cheap PMC 5.56 and found that even at 400 meters I could ring the gong without troubles. Can't wait to see what a match grade .223 will do with a better scope.

The more I looked into the H&K SL8 after reading your post, got me quite intrigued with the rifle. Mine is on the way now! Hoping to find a H&K bipod and perhaps a budget higher magnification scope for it.

This seems to be an appropriate place for a picture of my feet :), incidentally the Sl8 is totally underrated.
