FX-9 running like trash

I guess stovepipe would be the wrong term.. failure to feed more like it, was live rounds jamming straight up into the receiver, happened with brass and steel with various mags.

i had the same issues. this was resolved by
1. by getting a heavier buffer 7.4 oz or heavier - Odin Works (hardly any available in canada now)
Maple ridge armory carried their own branded H2 buffers, but out of stock
seems the bolt is coming back to battery too fast and having a heavier buffer slows it down
2. the newer Gen 2 extractors on mine and a friends fx9 have a rubber piece with the spring, this is also an issue as it will not have the optimum/too tight grip on the extractor groove of the case.
i Had to get a non OEM replacement spring that runs it perfect - i dont remember where i got it.
It took me a while to get these reliability concerns ironed out.
i have a gen 2 and had a gen 1 and they both had the same issues.
I also got the triggertech trigger and safety. They work 100%
some people get lucky amd have no malfunctions, but the reliability on the FX9 PCC's are a crap shoot.

If you have no time or patience, sell it and get a Ruger PC9.

Is that you in the video? If so it looks like you've got that FX9 running pretty good :)

I notice you are using the Holosun 510C - how do you like it on the FX9?

Holosun 510 C does the job. been running it for 2.5 years on IPSC and USPSA matches.
it holds zero and it's bright enough for outdoor matches too.

Good to hear, I am going the same direction (FX9 with 510C) but due to work / other commitments I haven't got to try it out yet.

I like the reticle and the window is huge. Looking forward to using it - I think it will work great.

I've had my FX-9 for 2 years. I had done my research quite extensively and that thing need absolutely an heavier buffer. I run the Odin set at the highest weight (7.4oz) no other upgrades. Its chews through everything brass from 115, 124,147 factory to custom loads. (I reload my 9mm with 124gr bullets campro, CCI primers and titegroup set a 4gr.)

I can run it with well over a 1000 rounds between cleaning sessions and no issues what so ever.

Get the buffer, problem solved.

One more thing that you have to watch out for in these FX9 rifles is the firing pin retaining pin.
The firing pin eats into the pin that holds it in place.
I put grease in there and smoothed out the firing pin with fine sand paper.
But it still does it.
I bought spare retaining pins from Wolverine and replace it when I go to major matches or it seems it’s almost at the point of breaking.

Interesting.

Any pictures of said issue?

Keep it clean and keep it lubed, get rid of the steel and aluminum cased ammo and run good factory ammo. Also stick to the glock mags, I had so many problems with non factory glock mags. Its not worth it, glock mags perform so much better in the FX-9. Do not forget to also clean your mags once in a while. Fx9 runs so dirty

Well those Glock mags do work great IF they lock back the bolt back after the last round is fired. You are the first person I have heard of who has an FX9 that, out of the box, held the bolt back after the last round using Glock OEM mags. BTW it is not the fault of the wonderful Glock mags. The fault lies with the little arm the G mag followers have to hit that raises the arm to stop the bolt. The only mags I have had work properly are Korean 10/32 mags marked SHK on the bottom.

To Rifle Master are you getting bulged using factory ammo. The bulge varies from a small bulge just above the webbing to a complete raised circle about an 1/8th inch wide raised about a wedding ring in thickness. I have had two out of battery experiences with my FX9 using the 18.5" and 10" uppers. I don't care how dirty your ammo is the gun ought not to be going off when the base of the cartridge is espoused.

I just sent mine in for warranty work due to the bulge case issue. I am getting bulged cases from both uppers under testing using a clean chamber and 124 and 147 gr ammo brass cases. Two of the out of battery discharges occurred in less than 50 rounds. Your problem is not a dirty chamber nor is it using pinned Glock mags which is what Freedom Ordnance suggested it might be when I contacted them. The lady went silent whern I told her I was using 10 rd G mags that did not require pinning. I have no idea what she thought the connection could be.

One thing that might be causing the issue is bullet set back when the round is chambered. If that were to be the case the bulged case/ out of battery might be an over pressure situation. I would hope that is not the case but you and I are not the first to mention the out of battery issue. From what I have read I have concluded the weight of the bolt/buffer that the gun comes with are collectively to light. An article published by Colt Industries seemed to indicate the ideal weight of the bolt and buffer out to be between 21 - 24 oz for the 9MM carbine. IIRC the FX9 combo is more like 11oz.

I'll post the fix here when I get my gun back.

Good news bad news. The good news is the gunsmith at Wolverine wont send the gun back unless he deems it to be safe. The case bulging in mine is not safe and right now I don't expect the gun to be returning soon. The bad news is he tells me it is not uncommon to see some case bulging in this PCC. The cartridge case when in battery is not fully supported by a lot. The gun also comes with a very light buffer.

I'll get back to this thread when I get the gun back.
