Questions about a new lee enfield no 4 made by savage

Hi,

i bought a lee enfield made by savage and i have some questions about it. It seem to be a long branch stamp (LB) near the serial number, so is this a rifle finished by Longbranch? Also, what could be a fair value: it has matching serail number on bolt, revceiver and magazine, the bore is in average condition (some light pitting) ansd all parts look to be marked from Savage.

56C###X the C references Savage as do all the S and S in Square box markings - the flaming bomb is the US Ordnance mark on Lend Lease rifles. According to Stratton 40C through 84C are not dated but are assumed to have been produced in 1943.

How the LB mark got on the receiver is beyond me - did Canada FTR some of the Lend Lease rifles at some point, I don't know.... I've seen C broad arrow marks on Savage stocks before.

Past few gun shows I have been to No4 mk1* rifles in that condition had 1200-1500 on their tags. I think that's high but EE prices are around the same. Didn't see a lot of them walking out the door. YMMV

the B on the left side of the butt stock is not a LB mark but just a B

Apparently it was applied after the bore was inspected, there were letters assigned for bore size, A being the smallest and D the largest. B is the most common as it is right on the barrel spec.

Now I say Apparently because this is something I have never read in any of the Enfield books or manuals, and I have not taken the time to pull out all my Savages to see if this is a Savage factory marking or if other enfields (Long Branch) have this marking as well.

People might be asking ca. $1500 but the question is, are people paying that amount? I saw some exceptionally nice rifles on the Lee Enfield Restorations table for ca. $1000, which I think is a way more reasonable price. IMO the guys asking $1500 are fooling themselves ... but that's just like, my opinion. ;)
 
That is not a Long Branch marking, I would $1,200.00 is a more realistic price. I think Enfield prices have it the high water mark and are not selling as quickly now.
