I just ordered one of the chinese sks that are for sale in the EE right now, glad to finally get my hands on one of these. I asked him about the corrosive ammo that canadaammo.com has for sale, he recommended against corrosive ammo.

So I'm wondering, what should I shoot out of this gun? The main reason I got it is because I want to shoot lots, cheaply (or cheaper than my 30-06 anyway). I want to buy cases of ammo, and the 200$ a case deal sounds good to me.

Any input would be much appreciated!

No problem at all shooting corrosive ammo.Just make sure you clean all gas affected parts asap with hot, slightly soapy water, then clean and lube as normal.happy shooting!

People tend to over react to the use of CORROSIVE ammo, don't ,just make sure to clean the rifle after use, particularly the gas piston, thats the only part that has ever given me trouble with the use of corrosive ammo.the bore on the CHICOM SKS's are cromed so it won't hurt them .
Just shoot the damn thing lots.

I wouldnt be overly concerned using the corrosive ammo_Once you break your sks down a few times for a cleaning, its fairly easy. And I've gotten away with less than"stellar"cleaning sessions...but keep an eye on the gas piston/tube and you should be alright...

I just put an order into can ammo for 2 cases of ammo.
I've noticed that deal too for $189 and free shipping...never ordered from there though.I just grab $100 worth from frontier23 now and then when I'm in Prince Albert.I've always been curious how long it would take for the ammo to get shipped out from order placed to delivery.

Corrosive is fine as long as you clean properly. One big thing people miss, and what freaks them out, is that if you don't neutralise the corrosive ammo salts, your gun will rust no matter what. A big part of doing this is, at least for me, washing with hot water. Some people just use windex, but I've found it to be ĂŻffy" in how it turns out, and hey - water's free (for now). Usually I take the smaller parts and put them in the sink and pour a kettle full of water over them (also loosens all the cosmo you missed). They get pretty hot, so they dry themselves too! Then I strip the rifle, run an old brass brush through the barrel to loosen crud up and pour another kettle of boiling water down the barrel and anywhere else the gasses and salt will have reached. Then I clean thoroughly.

I use cheap brand windex (with ammonia)to get rid of the corosive salts. As a bonus, it helps to clean the copper in the barrel

it seam strange a guy who sells SKS would recommend against using corrosive when the SKS was design to use.

i use nothing but corrosive now, it cost only $.19 each , i have tried american eagle $.85 .

if you really want to get some nice groupings from no corrosive ammo try a small box of the Fiocchi (sp) stuff. I was impressed. :)

I'd like to try to get a hold of some modern non corrosive Sellier and Bellot.

what i like to do with corrosive is to first shoot 10 or 20 rnds of non corrosive, then shoot corrosive, then finish off the day's fun with 10-20 non corrosive.it won't get rid of all the salt but i believe it will help to "blow out" quite a bit...

good idea but for those like me who uses hot water then there is no point of using non-corrosive before and after cos hot water will blow it out anyways.

Though the barrel on a Chinese SKS is chromed, I have heard that the chamber is not. So just to be safe I'd make a point of cleaning that out right away even if I'm not going to work on cleaning the bore til later.

If anyone can confirm whether this is true I'd greatly appreciate it.

You are right, the chamber ain't chromed.

It's seems easier to roughly clean the chamber and barrel right after my shooting because the barrel and fouling are hot. If I wait a couple of hours before I clean them, it becomes more difficult to get the crap out of the barrel
