The perfect shot , Or slightly off

Slightly off often means a long tracking job. If you're not confident in the shot don't take it. My last slightly off shot was an 1100 yard tracking job because I misjudged the distance on a deer. Hit higher than I wanted. Closer than I thought he was. With a rifle it wouldn't have mattered but a arrow it did.
Slightly off my mean double lung when aiming for the high shoulder. Still good. Or it could mean gut shot if the shot is long and the error is small

Hate to break it to some. A 338 isn't a cannon. Stock design and ammunition has as much to do with recoil as caliber.

There was a tongue in cheek sarcastic thread,.years ago about using 17 rem on moose. The 6.5 manbun is closer to this. Go ahead, be accurate( most aren't) because the caliber is marginal. Use your judgment, don't take the over 300yd shot because the caliber has sub 1000 ft/lbs energy, but we know they'll take the shot.

By all means, shoot something you can handle/shoot well. Make it capable of doing the job while your at it. This includes using a premium game bullet, at distances your capable of placing a one shot kill. Buying a marginal, supposedly accurate caliber, with glorified target ammo is no better than using to high a recoiling caliber to shoot well

What I don't get is how people still s&%^ on the 6.5s like they're "puny, or marginal", some even going as far questioning the ethics of using them. The Scandis have been filling freezers with 6.5x55 Husqvarnas and Mausers for a lot longer than many here have been around. The ol' American thought of "bigger is better" is definitely not so. I very much agree with some of the notions above that a rifle you can be more confident and accurate with trumps bore size. Just because the 6.5 Creed is the new hotness and championed by many in the non-hunting crowd doesn't mean it's no good.

6.5x54 MS is even less powerful and has a pretty enviable reputation as well. There isn't much more than a hair of difference between 6.5x55 and 6.5CM and 7x57 and 7mm-08 either lol.

For some reason that Creedmoor case sure gets by living rent free in some people's heads.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the 6.5cm, its a twin to the proven 6.5x55, but the issue some have is with the guy holding it, the ones who just won't stfu....
Which in turn drags it down and makes it an easy target.

I think it's just gotta come down to guys doing their research and finding what suits their purposes best without developing emotional attachments to things such as rifle cartridges. Personally I love finding out I was wrong/finding an excellent chambering I've never heard about. As for hunting, it's rarely the cartridge that's the problem, within reason of course. It's not knowing your cartridge ballistics and taking less than ideal shots such as the "Texas Heart Shot" mentioned above.

Honestly hear a lot more haters complaining about it than I do fans admiring it lol. The ratio of people trashing it to people overhyping it seems to be about 100 to 1.

The fans usually don't post ### memes either, which is kinda interesting to have on your HD but you do you lol

I also think that with the 6.5cm there was a lot of match bullets that came hand to hand with it and people don’t make a difference between match bullets and proper well constructed hunting bullets! I like heavy for caliber bullets and I think if you do the same with the 6.5cm and use a heavy round nose or partition you will have great results on any games inside 400yRds

Exactly. And now mfg's are making those that do well in both the LR target and hunting role. I've had excellent success with the 143 grn ELD-X, last deer I took was a DRT at 480 yds, with great expansion/energy transfer.

155-156 gr Lapua Mega, Woodleighs etc must be really effective for sure. I put my faith in lighter monos with a lower expansion threshold like the 127gr LRX that I think should do about the same job.

Bnk2 that eld-x looks like a beast. Still about 1500 ft/lbs when it got there?

A wee bit south I think, but in that ballpark. From a 20" Tikka.
