Legally pinning a magazine tube extension

OP asked about wood plug and many are suggesting plastic and spent cases etc

Are you sure you even need to pin it? If it's a magazine that was designed and manufactured for a non-semi, then no need to pin it. As in, if you can buy it as a tube magazine for a pump and it comes unpinned you're fine.
 
Kinthelt - you're totally wrong, as are others about materials of the plug. Read the LAW. Semi MUST be pinned to 5, if the mag is from anything when it goes on a semi 5 is the max.
geez, the law only has 3 sub-sections. How hard is it to understand. And a wooden dowel doesn't do it. The law says 'similar' to magazine so unless the mag is wood is won't pass. Hunting regs allow s--- like that cause it's a temporary plug for hunting, but Not a temp in a 8-shell mag if it's a .
Is all this just to have a place to hang lites, etc?? What's the point of an 8-shell mag on a semi if you have to plug it?? An intimidation factor??

The extension tubes are manufactured for pump action shotguns (Unlimited mag capacity) but they also fit on semi-auto shotguns. Must be pinned to 5 though.

You should of just bought it from Tactical Ordnance, they would of done it for you with purchase.
 
As others have said, permanently affixing a rod to the end cap is the answer. You could even get another cap and affix a longer rod to that if you're waterfowling (3 rounds). I'd colour code the caps slightly if it were mine so I'd know from a glance as to which tube capacity restriction was what.

Being able to swap out the end caps at will isn’t exactly permanent. Once I fastened the aluminum dowel to the end cap, I used jb weld to permanently fasten the end cap to the body of the extension. This is for a Nordic components extension

...so long as the magazine is entact, it's permanently restricted. I'd say if a LEO tried to get a 6th in he couldn't. I wouldn't JB weld sh1t. How do you clean it if the cap is welded on?

Nordic extensions are a 3 part system and have threads on either end of a blank tube. to use them you need a nut and an end cap. The end cap is easily swapped out in 15 seconds without removing the extension itself which I don’t believe would be considered permanent.I turn the 3 piece unit into a 2 piece. The extension itself is still totally removable from the gun.
 
Semi Automatic Shotguns are a bit trickier in Canada. For tube magazine-fed semi-auto shotguns, they can only take 5 rounds of the type they’re designed for in the mag. In a box magazine, that means 5 shells. In a tube, it’s a bit different since shotguns made for long shells will fit a few extra shorter shells in. The extra capacity is super important in 3 gun and some other action sports using shotguns.

Conservatively:

5 2&3/4 shells in a shotgun chambered for 2&3/4
6 2&3/4 shells in a shotgun chambered for 3″
7 2&3/4 shells in a shotgun chambered for 3.5″
