Pretty funny, can’t even incentivize em to work on the Rez tax free. Even off Rez Indians have a lower labour participation rate, that’s with free indefinite education to any level they desire. Without tax dollars and whitey working for em on the Rez I’d all fall apart. Teachers, nurses, doctors, police, pilots, truck drivers, tradesmen the list goes on

Most jobs I have worked gave me paid vacation time too..... in hunting and fishing season even!!!! the horrors of white privledge I guess eh?

You don't quite get it. This is leave in addition to whatever vacation leave they are already entitled to. I get vacation leave that I can use during during hunting season, but that means that I have less to use during the rest of the year. They will be getting paid leave specifically to go hunt and fish while still retaining their allotment of paid vacation leave. That's f**ked up.

John the native gets 4 weeks paid vaca as well, but also is allowed 5 paid native heritage activity days

Not that uncommon in threads like these, there is always at least one that knows it all.

Just a FYI, Ontario provincial employees also get 2 or 3 special paid leave days which Indigenous employees could use for harvesting or other cultural events. These days are open to be used by all employees that have special events unique to their background, culture or beliefs (e.g. Catholics, Muslim, Jewish, etc). These are above and beyond vacation days. There are also paid leaves avaialble for compassion, health/medical, death in the family, etc. Government jobs are all publicly posted and anyone can apply, fyi.

And...here’s how EVERY Canadian should hear it, “Tom and John are both Canadians. It’s so very sad how this federal government has stirred up and created so much hatred, resentment and division amongst its populace with their “progressive” ideology. Many of my friends talk of not being on the receiving end of racism and discrimination in this country until the last half dozen or so years. Why is that? We are becoming intolerant to legislated “tolerance” and advantages being offered to select groups of Canadians by this misguided government. True equality in clearly unachievable under this Trudeau Government. But that was never the intent, now was it.

We are not criticising paid vacation. We are criticising extra paid vacation. I took my vacation to do what I wanted and so should everyone else. If indeed they are paying for additional days above the norm it is not equality and our argument is correct.

Soounds about the way it should be. In the private sector I barely took time but the message was clear with a couple of family deaths....Take AS MUCH TIME AS YOU NEED..see you when you return. Nice when the employer is good and no need for the "bargaining".

I'd fully support "traditional" hunts if they were actually that.

It's called bargaining!
We all have to realize that the government did not just throw in this "Hunting days" clause in the contract.
A bargaining submission would have been input by a union member to the bargaining committe for consideration. The committe would then evaluate it considering the cost to the company and benefit to it's members. If the union then chose to make it part of bargaining it would be laid on the table with all other requests (demands).
Then it is just horse trading until an agreement is reached that can be taken to the membership to vote on.
If certain members get paid "Hunting days" that is good. A future contract could expand on this for others.
Or it could be bargained away for something else if the union wanted to do so,
but not likely. Not every item effects every member. It is collective bargaining.

It sets a bad precedent too. Opens the door for extra paid leave for other groups as well. Part of a free and modern market is enabling free will. If a public servant with 3-5 weeks of vacation can’t hunt their game on that time, then it really can’t be that important to them.
