7th Annual Upper Canada Double Gun Classic

Not being able to pivot on left knee will leave me at much of a disadvantage. I was hoping I'd have had the surgery before June but with our health care system I'm going to be hobbling for a while.
But on the off chance I shoot high score with a 410 I'd prefer a bronze statue. Nothing over over the top. Life size will do lmao

Because we are introducing the Double Gun Classic Gun of the Year Award Trophy for the first time, I'm asking that all previous winners attending please bring the winning gun (if you still have it) so we can get a photo of you, the gun and the trophy for the archives. Decades from now, you will thank me. I'll be dead but you will thank me.

For the Record:

1) 2015 Best Gun Award - Canvasback - Manufrance Ideal Model 7RE-C Perfection 12 gauge circa 1921
2) 2016 Best Gun Award - CJO - Custom - A.H Fox B Grade with beavertail forend. Circa 1912
3) 2017 Best Gun Award - Mark Dube - Parker Bros DH 12 ga circa 1903
4) 2018 Best Gun Award - Londonshooter - Lincoln Jeffries including both 12g and 10g Barrels circa 1875

Here’s a bit of an announcement.

Each year we all have voted for what we’ve called The Best Gun of the Classic. And there have been some truly amazing guns that have won over the years. I mean AMAZING!

Well, we decided that a truly amazing gun needs a truly amazing trophy. So after a little brainstorming between Chris Dawe and myself, we acquired some raw materials and Chris has been busy creating a new kind of masterpiece, a little different from the woodwork we normally get to see from him. The trophy, when completed, will reflect much of what draws us to these vintage guns. Beautiful wood, fine metal work, amazing finishes and stunning craftsmanship.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that any future winner will be proud to display it in their home for a period of time.

It will be unveiled at the upcoming 2023 edition of The Classic.

James and Chris thank you for doing this. Though I will not be able to attend this year, I would like to help partially sponsor the trophy. I will send the money ($50) today. I hope some others will also follow suit.

Hopefully next year my schedule will allow me to be present. AH.

Adam, that is very generous of you. Your $50 contribution will help underwrite the $470 Chris and I have spent on materials so far for the trophy. That money went to walnut planks, a vintage silver wine jug, the brass bar stock for the little yearly winners plaques (we did all 32 of them so there is no switching of material 5 years from now because we can't find matching brass bar stock), and vintage screws from Wales (we scoured NA sources) that can be heat treated. What it doesn't include is the hours of labour Chris has put into building it.

Adam's donation helps but i hope it doesn't end there. We would welcome a contribution donation from anyone else who feels so inclined. We try to keep costs down as much as possible with this event, enough so that what minimal cash outlays have been done in the past have been eaten by the organizers. But this is a bit large for Chris and I and we could use some help. Any amounts, up to $50 would be great. They can be e-transferred to Chris Dawe at cj.dawe@hotmail.com. Let me know and I will make sure you are recognized for your contribution.

Here was our jumping off point for the trophy design:

WOW!

Contribution sent.

Sending an EMT to Chris as well!
Trophy’s going to be great!
I’m thankful for the event bringing all of these fine guns outta the safes for us to see.

And a generous donation from Mark Dube. Thanks so much Mark.

And thank you to everyone who has helped out. It’s an indication if the kind of people we have coming. All great guys and generous. Just the sort you’d hope to meet.

What would be generous is if the owner of the very first gun of the year put up said gun as a prize for the highest score with the lowest weight 12g SxS.

Now wouldn’t that be something!

You might have a chance. I'm getting a scope done on my knee on the 8th so I'm not sure if I'll be up and walking.

Think my lightest 12 was 6lbs 3oz as weighed at a sxs classic iirc
Will someone be bringing a scale?
I’ve got a 25” double that weighs 5.7lbs per a digital bathroom scale——> I weigh myself first and then compare that to my weight while holding the gun.
Would like to double check it though, light as the gun is it just seems tooo light a measure

Hope you can make it regardless, even if using a cane
Just come hang out and shoot next year!

*** i had one done when 18 and from memory though mine was pretty sore for few weeks
The anesthetic was the worst part imo, maybe they don’t do the full knockout anymore?
Rocked the cane, it helped
So only 2 days is cutting it close on second thought
And that’s a long car ride
Well hope to see you next year if not this!
