Canadian ww2 9mm ammo

It came in different packages, depending on where it was going etc. Mostly the post war packaging was identical except they used a softer paper for the carton during the war.

The packaging was multi purpose, one 64 round box filled two 32 round sten mags

The box on the left is Canadian .45ACP, headstamp: DI 42 45 AC. Why 42 rounds in a box, I dunno. The box is the same height as the 9mm box but a slight bit wider, so maybe they wanted packaging the same size and therefore 42 rds was the magic number?

The box on the right is Canadian 9mm headstamp: DI 43 9mm

Thanks guys. here are the pics for those interested. one box headstamp is DI 42, the other is DI 43.

DI was Dominion Industries. Ive got some older 22 ammo made by them so Im assuming they did most calibres. Im sure they turned into just Dominion after.

DI was Defence Industries (DI hs) a crown corporation run by Dominion Cartridge (DC hs) division of CIL 1941-45.

42rds is 6 1911 magazines. Makes sense to ship the ammo to best suit the size of magazine its filling.
