Pet 280 ackley loads

I have used the 120 gr TTSX bullets on deer in a 7x64 rifle which is merely a metric 280. It kills very effectively. Maybe not the best bullet for larger game but it is great on deer

120 TTSX works good, even on moose. Here's one that didn't go anywhere with a 300 yard shot from a 7-08 (2950 fps muzzle, approx impact speed 2250 fps, about what a 280AI would deliver @ 450 yards)

Putting together a 280ai based off a sako AV action. going with a 24" gain twist barrel. Plan to shoot 160 gr partitions out of it. Still debating to go with either H4831sc,H4350 or Viht N560.

N560 will give a bit more velocity that H4831sc. Both would be worth a try

I've been thinking of getting a 7-08 for the kids and shoot the 120's, but then I thought why not just load the 280AI with 120's, start them on a reduced recoil load then build up. I'd for sure have no issue using the 120's on moose. It would more so be a deer rifle, as I have a thumper for moose.

The 160 federal trophy bonded tip is another that I'd like to see available.

The 160gr Trophy Bonded Tip shoot surprisingly well, been running them at 2940 fps with RL26 in my 280AI, no kills yet, but they're very accurate

here's a group from 328 yards

I've used the 140 quite a bit in the 7mm08. Had excellent results. Took a moose and a couple deer with them. They worked as expected and the 2 bullets recovered from the moose were perfect mushrooms with good weight retention. It would be an excellent do all bullet. My wife actually found one of the bullets when we were having moose ribs one night. It was a head on shot at close range and I thought the bullet had exited. Was very surprised at how little meat damage there was and that I never found rhe bullet or wound channel when I was butchering.

IMR 4831 (you work the charge weight)
CCI 250’s
150 grain Nosler Partition’s or Ballistic Tips.

25” gain twist gets me a solid 3000fps at -5 Celcius.

My best results in my 280ai is with a 150eldx and 60.5 of H4831 in a H case. Got a .3” group at 3039av fps. This was at .035” ogive off the lands. 26” custom Ron Smith gain twist barrel, 7.5” end twist, not sure what the starting twist is. M695 Tikka. I have some 162eldx as well, but I haven’t been successful with them yet.
