I had been thinking of a .270Win but why attempt to fix what isn’t broken with my 06?

The again, same could be said for the .308’s I have. No need for the 6.5Needmore when the 08 has been effective for so long.

im a .308 kiinda guy.

7mm Rem mag here, similar recoil to 30'06 with heavy loads, have a target rifle in same and it works well out to 1000m.
Still have way more 30'06 rifles in the stable and they work very well, nothing wrong with it at all.

500 meters is close to 550 yards, at that range the 30-06 wouldn't be my first choice for moose or elk. I would step up to a 300 win mag. Out to 400 yards I would feel more confident with a 30-06.

my favourite caliber is one where a .25 sd, .5 bc, or higher, bullet can be launched somewhere south of 15 ft/lbs recoil energy and maintain 1800 fps impact to about 500 yards, so it really depends on the rifle choice but it does narrow the calibers down to a couple that I like, but it's not the caliber that got me to choose it, it was everything but the caliber that got me to choose it, caliber is just a byproduct

However, I will never know if that is true because I bring size and know how to use it.
