Bullets

What's everybody's opinion on the best 6.5 bullet

Sierra in various weights and configurations work extremely well in all three of my rifles. I like their 85 gr JHPs, for ground hogs out of my 6.5 x 55 in My Zastava, but they have discontinued these unfortunately. When these get low, I will try their 90 and 100 gr.

I do load PPU Jacketed round nose bullets for plinking with my M96 and M38.

All 140gr unless stated otherwise. Hornady eldm and bthp match for small groups. Sierra bthp match not as good. Nosler custon comp maybe slightly better than Sierra. 120 grain ballistic tip not great for target shooting. For cheap ppu, 120 gr HP small groups in Bergera creed, my sweed, average, 139gr SP horrible. Berger vld 130gr didn't perform as good as Hornady but close second. Barnes match burners a favorite, they go on sale under 50 bucks, the 140 gr prob 3rd after berger. All my shooting done 200 yards or less tho. No experience hunting.

Exactly, the best bullet to kill elk with your 6.5x300wby, may not be the best to shoot deer with a 6.5 Grendel, or for long range target shooting.

The best bullet for elk at 400 yards in your 6.5-300 Weatherby may not be the best bullet to shoot deer at 50 yards with in the same cartridge. Way too many variables in the OP's question for an intelligent answer.

I can vouch for the 140 Partition in most scenarios. I have shot close to 40 game animals with
6.5mm - 140 Partitions. This in chamberings starting at the 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenaur and
on up to the 264 Win Mag. That bullet has always worked for me. 75%+ of the time, it exits.
It expands reliably, and invariably retains 60-65% of it's weight.
In lighter chamberings [ 6.5 MS, 6.5 Grendel, etc, the 125 Partition works as well] Dave.
