Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

Was looking at my other husky 648 comerical m98 with Nicole scope on claw mounts on page137 of this tread. This tread as been going for a while with some amazing rifles and info ,I have enjoyed many hours reading and obsorbing some of the info contained here in.Thank you Baribil for your time and knowledge putting this together.

In Sweden, they often had the rear sight replaced from the factory, especially for the 1600 series. The single leaf folding type is very common on 1600 Std. You are missing the front sight hood.
Tnx for the kind words. The goal of this thread is to share what we gathered over the years of collecting / researching HVA firearms.

I recently picked up a Husky 30-06 Carbine / Lightweight (I assume) and would love some additional info on it. I'd been after this exact rifle in 6.5x55 for a while but couldn't pass this one up for the price. There was also one in .270 in the same / better condition but twice the price....

It has the shorter barrel / jewelled bolt / ribbed trigger / barrel band sling mount - The only thing missing is the rear sight which I have been searching to find on-line but no luck.

Guidance on which sight is the appropriate one (Leaf or no leaf?) would be appreciated. Just trying to also figure out what would be a good scope to mount.

Can you post a picture of the roll stamp on top of the barrel and the length of the barrel, please ?
A pic of the buttplate would be great.
Also, is the trigger adjustable ?

hello - here are some more pics. Barrel is 510mm, Trigger is adjustable, butt plate is covered / has been replaced? with a decelerator pad. please let me know of any other details required. Thank you.

Epps has a model 640 in 9.3x57R

I did not know the bolt actions came in a Rimmed Cartridge

are there others?

Something is wrong then. The Model 640 was never chambered in 9.3X57 and no 146 have been chambered for the 9.3x57R neither.

OK, it's more clear now, what you have there is a model 1600 Special. Yes, the butt was modified and a pad was added. You should have the adjustable trigger. Not very common sight as they were mid way in the upper end models

I have just purchased two HVA sporters in 30-06. I have been shooting this one for two weeks. The other is to be delivered this week-end.

The first one is what I think is a basic "Lightweight".

Serial is 18159x

It has a dovetail in the barrel for a rear sight, but no sign of a front sight. Checkering on the pistol grip, but not on the forend. 24" barrel in 30-06.

I have logged it in as a 1600. Is that correct?

My first range test was not very good. So I bedded the action in Devcon and the second session was groups around 1.2 to 1.8" at 100. Acceptable for a hunting rifle.

The action is a 98, but much smoother than my other 98s. The empties do not eject unless a pull the bolt back enthusiastically. If I pull the bolt back casually, the empty case falls off the extractor about half way out of the chamber. What needs adjusting? Or do I need a new extractor?

Ganderite,
A 1600 is the "Lightweight" version, but sports a 520mm (20.47") barrel. What you have is a (most likely, without more pictures) a model 1640 Std.
There were no 1640 models without sights, so it surely was removed or lost in the past.
Actually, it's NOT a M98 but a dedicated action, incorporating some of the features of the M98 but maybe more of the M94-96-38. The breeching is from the M94-96-38.
The third lug and bolt shroud are from the M98.
Your rifle was made in 1955.
As for you ejection problem may just be cause by some gunk, if not, the ejector need to be replaced and it's a very hard to find item, which can be copied with some skills and patience...

My second 30-06 Husky arrived. Appears to me a M98 action. FN or Husky? Sr # 11686X

Checkering fore and aft.

Nice front sight.

The previous owner is a tool maker and he made a very nice peep sight for it. Which I don't want. It would make a great back-up sight for a hunting scope, since the bridge can slide off and the base does not interfere with a scope.

FN action, there will be another serial number behind the recoil lug. I had one of those, as well as a 1600 lightweight. I seem to have a hard time hanging on to .30'06's.

You need a hood and a rear sight for that one. Interesting peep sight, way beyond my skill level.

I had a similar sight on a pre-64 Win M70. Zero the sight for 100 yards then screw the elevation screw down so it touches the base. A dab of Lok-Tite guarantees it won't shift. Then take the sight bridge off and pack it into the rifle case.

Install and zero the hunting scope. If disaster strikes with the scope, take it off, slide the rear sight back on and let it bottom out on the set-screw. Tighten and you are good to go.

My serious hunting days are over.

$50 and this rear sight is yours.

I'm not sure if it would fit on any of my rifles I have? Is the the sight mouted like a side mount? I lke the idea of having a backup iron sight in case of scope failure.
