Training with Airsoft

Personally I would only see it as a benefit to practice drills and movement, which can also be practiced with the real guns. The shooting of a pellet may not bring any added benefit as the physics of launching a real bullet is very different.
I do paintball to practice cover, movement and team work but does nothing for shooting skills.

I know a guy who shot ipsc airsoft before he got his pal. He learned a ton because he only had to really manage recoil after that. Very solid shooter.

Yes it's definitely different, but I still find it valuable. It's a lot easier to dry fire and get Reload reps when you don't have to #### it every time or load dummy rounds.
Many airsoft guns are 1:1 replicas of the real firearms and function essentially the same.
I find it great for sight alignment, up Drills, Reloads, speed, transitions, familiarizing yourself with the firearm and your gear. It's a great way to try out accessories and gear to see what works and what doesn't.
BBs are also super cheap in comparison.

Exactly - The "best" training for any given type of competition is doing that specific competition. Anything else can leave training scars. That doesn't mean those other activities are not useful, far from it - You've just got to watch the baggage you're collecting along the way.

Agreed….I’ve seen a number of new shooters to IPSC in Ontario rise very quickly in the ranks over the last few years and the one thing they all have in common is a few years of serious airsoft competition prior to getting into real guns. The benefits are real and the skills are transferable.
