To GLOCK or not to GLOCK

The need for a new toy is fast approaching. Target shooting the main priority, autoloader being the second. What shall I indulge myself with.

A GLOCK in 9mm, 10mm or ???
A S&W M&P in 9mm??
or some other wonderful autoloader?

Decisions, decisions???:runaway:
 
Glock prices have come down significantly, you can't really go wrong. If you like the looks, and it feels good in the hand, you can get a fixed sight G17 for $596.50. (And I'd personally go 9mm)

The MP is also VERY nice. You can't go too wrong with either choice.

Unless you have lots-o-bucks to burn I would not go with the 10mm. You could bring the ammo price down with reloading, but still way more $$$ that shooting 9mm.

If your just putting holes in paper for fun. You cant go wrong with a 9mm Glock.
 
Personally like the Browning High Power and CZ75 derivatives (elgant design) but will likely end up with the M&P 9mm for price point (before April) and adjustabiltiy so wife and I can share... Glock has a "beauty" of its own though one of the original (2nd?) tuperware guns and the darn things just work. There under $600, buy it, if you like it keep it, if not then you loose what $100 or $200 after a year if that? Thats going for dinner a couple times...
 
I like Glocks. I just don't like shooting them that much. But that's me.

I wouldn't buy any gun without shooting it first.

Shoot a Glock, a 1911 single stack, an M&P, a Sig, a CZ, a Beretta, a Walther, and if I left any others out, don't take it personally.

One or two of them will have really good sights for your eyes.
One or two of these will fit your palm, your fingers, really well, as if it were made for you. One or two of these will raise naturally to the target.

Others won't. But they will be perfect for other people.

I do have to say I really like my Glock a lot but I love my Taurus (Beretta copy) and I'm sure I'd love a REAL Beretta even more.

Have you thought about .40 S&W I personally don't like it much, I use it because I HAVE to. I prefer shooting 9mm and am still waiting to get some experience with a 1911 in .45 I'm just afraid once I get into the 1911 thing it will steal my soul like it has with so many others.
 
Well those that had read my post in the past know that I'm not a big fan of Glock and had always voted for the M&P in these threads. But guess what?! My Glock 19 has won me over and I sold my M&P. Go for the Glock!
 
Two quick questions for you...

1) Buy shooting target, do you just want to shoot holes in paper or do you want to shoot 10's.

2) What kind of $$ are you planning on spending for this?

If you want to shoot 10's, the STI Trojan in 9mm would be a pretty good choice.

If you want to go the tupperwear route, spend a few extra $ and get the G34, the extra sight radius is nice for target work.

I'd say between the Glock and M&P go with M&P for sure, unless you want a 10mm (too bad there's no M&P10mm :()

Back to the topic. I have a G17 and I like it a lot. It is a good reliable cheap made ugly gun. It is another ugly duckie in my gun safe. The day that I went to a gun store annual big sale, Glock and M&P sell like hotcake, I am not sure glock is a better gun than M&P. M&P has way more better feature than glock, like stainless steel slide and parts, MUCH BETTER SIGHT. grip insert to fit different size hand, much better flame. Better trigger pull etc. But just don't feel right in my hand and I don't know why. I picked up the G17 and never look back. Some people just like Glock so as some don't like M&P. You may want to try them many times before you pick one.

Thank the lord I'm not the only one that shoots a Glock and thinks so! I think it's the ugliest freak gun anyone has every made. But the fact is, it's simple, reliable, parts are abundant and it's super durable. Don't get me wrong, I love the M&P as well, but the Glock is just more accurate (for me) and has already proven that it will take a beating and still shoot a lifetime, where as the S&W still has yet to stand the trial of time. For this reason alone, I had stuck with my Glock 19. That and there are just so much aftermarket goodies for Glocks! PIMP my gun baby..PIMP my gun!

She's so hawt, makes me wanna shoot IPSC!
 
I was walking the line between a Glock 17 or M&P 9 a month ago, and I went with the better option...the Glock!

But really, try them out if you can and see which one feels better. For me the Glock points so naturally and feels great. But the trigger will take getting used to.
