Any .375 Winchester users here?

Wife with the .375Win out on a spring bear scouting trip.

L to R: Ruger No.1 .303, Win M1895 .270Win, Win M1895 .30-06, Win M1895 .405Win, Win 94 .375Win, Marlin M1895 GG .45-70, Marlin M1895XLR .45-70, Marlin 39A .22LR

My .375Win is my favorite carry rifle, when I go out to the bush it's the rifle I always grab.
I've got lot's more powerful rifles, but none so handy and quick.

The fun begins... as in the search for utopia ;)
Well, utopia in my case is a rabbit hole searching for 22 hornet components and reloading info.
Whelanlad Down-under shoots one or shot one iirc , but he has gone fly-about to New Zealand and may check in.
Enough of my comments.
You have come to the right place and someone with actual usage of the .375 Win will be offering up some solid advice.
Good Hunting.
Rob

‘Lil Gun, as much as will fit in the case. All you need to know about the Hornet.

I used to hunt white-tailed deer and moose with my Big Bore 94 from the early '80's until the late '90's. It worked very well with Hornady 220 grain flat point bullets (I hunted with those exclusively). No complaints. It was very fast with a Lyman aperture sight. That said, all of my animals were taken well within 100 yards (more like inside 50m). Recoil was stout due to the light weight of the model 94, but that wasn't a factor when hunting. It's a shame that the cartridge was discontinued.

Winchester made 250 and 200gr factory ammo once upon a time.......preferred the heavier bullet.There's always cast 94's have a 1-12 twist .

I use my little .375Win as my walk-about rifle in grizzly country, cuz it's such a nice quick handling little rifle.
I have no interest in bear self defense discussion, but as this is the basic purpose of me carrying that rifle, here's what I did...

I bought 235gr Woodleigh Weldcore bullets for it. Those are intended for .375H&H velocities, to achieve 'ideal expansion' at the .375H&H velocity, which of course the M1894 Winchester cannot achieve.
They need something like 2200fps for proper expansion IIRC...

In my .375Win I can push them about 1900fps, and I figure they are the closest thing to a 235gr hard cast bullet. I want them to be able to penetrate the skull of a bear.

And I ain't shootin' unless I got zero choice in the matter.

If you watch my video you'll see there are some big bears walking about in the bush, where I hunt.

You should grab some of these, if you can still. I grabbed some but haven’t loaded them yet. Fast forward video to 5:40 and watch them hunt Cape Buffalo with .375w in Africa. Pretty amazing!

I talked to Sierra today in regards to the 200gr FN .375 bullet and they haven't made any since just before covid but they said it takes about a week to set up the machinery for a run. So they are not discontinued as of yet.No timeline given.

^ Thanks for sharing! Inquiry sent to Woodleigh!

Woodleigh had a fire a while back, I don't know what bullets they are back producing yet. I hope they do them all, they have well sized ones for a few of my rifles, and some nice heavyweights for a few others. I really miss original Barnes, they offered a lot of similar bullets. - dan
