Big old shell

I was at the scrap yard looking for a piece of pipe. Sticking out of the brass pile was a big old brass shell. The base has stamped in it

I assume it is made in 1969 but that is about all I can figure out. Can any of you experts tell me more about it?

They won't. One guy I know will let me know when something cool comes in but most can't be bothered.

During the war, my dad was in charge of the Dominion Bridge Shell Shop in Winnipeg. We had dozens of artillery cases with inert projectiles in the basement. About 1955, we moved and my mom read the Riot Act about them, and I never saw them again.

Only a portion of the Centurion fleet was changed to 105mm. The balance remained in 20 pdr until replacement by the Leopards in 78. I have exact numbers at work.

I would have to check, but for the most part that should be the case. I have listings of the final disposition at work, and by that point some may have come back from Germany.

I remember in the middle seventies, I was on a driving course at Longue Pointe Base in Montreal. There were several dozen Centurion tanks parked at the depot waiting for disposal.
