We are a small skeet club, so I have only had the pleasure of handing out three 25 straight patches, in my five years as skeet chair. We have never shot a hat here, as the only people that earned 100 straight patches, have had them a long time. How often do you get to hand out patches, or shoot hats at your club?

We handed out a 100 straight to one of our junior shooters recently for trap, she went on to the Canadian championships at Brandon this year to win sub juniors singles with a 197/200.
Almost every year we shoot someone's hat for 25 straight in trap but we get a lot of new shooters.

I've never seen a hat shot at our home club because the exec have it in their heads it needs to be for 100 straight? At my original club they shot a first time 25 straight shooters hat. Took part in several both in trap & skeet. We have two new members since last year that joined our club here in Lloyd. A few weeks back I took out my new to me Maxus to try on the skeet field and shot a 25x25 with it. The two newbies were in shock. The one said "I've never seen anyone shoot a perfect score, Holy _ _ _ _!! "Laugh2

was at the BC provincials this weekend and watched a young ladies hat shot to pieces and she got her 25 straight patch as well. Also women won the BC handicap event first time I have seen that .

We usually do it for the first 25 straight also. We usually tell new shooters we shoot their hat for a 24, we let them take it off for a 25 !!

We only shoot hats for 100 as well. We used to see quite a few 25s, but a friend was transferred, so now it's pretty much just me , and I am not as consistent as I used to be, I am still trying to run 75, with the 410..

Our clubs will blast the starch outta your hat if you make a 25...lol

I've never shot a straight 25 in skeet...had lotsa 23's, a few 24's with the option shot gone early. ONLY ONCE...I ran the first 24 and missed my low house #25 shot...the boys suggested I leave my hat on annnd have the "hat shoot" anyways..lol

Last 3 rounds of trap 2 weeks ago were 22, 23, 23....missed 2 straightaways last round !!!...arghhhhhh....I'm soooothisclosetoit !!

On a high note, I did have a run of 37 in PEI on a SC course, and a run of 38 straight in The Canadian Nationals Sporting clays in Fredericton in 2019 tho

Keep at it, you'll get it. You're right on the cusp! I'm still trying for the 100 in skeet and 200 in trap. Had a handful of 99's in skeet in 12 & 20 ga and 199's in trap.
My first registered skeet shoot I borrowed a guys gun as I didn't own any sub-gauges. I had his Rem 3200 with 20ga tubes inserted. I missed the first target out of the house and ran the next 99. I shot a 97 in 28ga, 98 in 410 and of all things used my own gun that shoot for the 12ga and shot a 94?! I still captured the HOA 400 that weekend though. That was pretty exciting.
My first registered 100 in trap was at The Grand American in 1987 in the 200 singles championship. Ran the first 100, missed the first target out in the second 100 and ran the last 99 for a 199x200.
At the 2021 SK Provincials I missed a target on my second post of the first 25 in the 200 singles race and shot the next 191 straight to finish with a 199x200 once again. That 200 is eluding me. And shot a 99x100 in doubles trap at a registered shoot once...missed target number 97, so close again! Lol
Never give up!

Gonna do my damnest to get a patch spank...lol
Been following your posts for a while...pretty impressive stuff you've accomplished !!

I've had the accidental pleasure of texting with Sheldon Prysunka for a spell. I bought a keg of 700X off of him. Had my bil pick it up for me in Leduc area.
What a super nice gentleman he is ! Knows his way round long range rifles as well as trap shooting & shotguns.

Thanks for this. Can get discouraging at times.

If it was as easy as some say it would get boring. Shooting at a box of targets off a launcher in the back 40 is far different than at a range. Then throw in a field of experienced shooters all vying to capture a title be it HOA/HAA Champion or a class/category title at a registered shoot, especially a Provincial, State or World Title shoot and it's an entirely different game.
David "Tiger" Williams and I were chatting last saturday in Swift Current and he was saying how hard it was for him to adjust to competing in a sport where your mindset is focused on yourself and not the other members of your squad or other shooters at the shoot after spending his hockey career in the NHL where you have to play to win as a team, not an individual. Said it took him close to 5 years to make the adjustment.

I have had people ask me how long it should take to earn patches, and some are surprised when I answer, that some people will earn a 25 patch in a month or two, some will take a year or more, and some people will never earn one. Some people are disappointed to hear that the majority of people will never earn a 50, 75 or 100 patch. It takes a combination of natural ability, effort, and practise, and some people don't have much natural ability, and some won't put in the time or effort. A friend shot 20 his very first day, but he doesn't shoot often, so ten years later, he has never shot better than 22 or 23. Other people shoot regularly, but years later, they have never managed 25. Other people came out, shot regularly, and within a few months shot 25, but have never shot 50 or more. Looking around the club, there are 7-8 active shooters that have shot 25, but only two of us left that have shot 100, and in both cases, we did it over 30 years ago. Being that most of us earned our patches years ago, if you look around the field, very few of us even wear patches, as the vests that we earned them with, were retired many years ago. Our membership doesn't change a lot, the vast majority are 50+ , so I only see one current shooter that has a good chance at earning some patches.

Had a good friend years ago who owned a pheasant hunting operation. First time he tried skeet at a range he shot his first round straight and did the same on the trap range. Sadly his local club went the way of the dodo bird. Last time I spoke with him he said the 3200 Remington trap gun he shot hadn't seen the light of day since around 1985...

I made the 25, then the 50, finally the 75 patches in trap long ago, never quite managed the 100 ( close a few times, probably changed guns too many times looking for that last few elusive birds). In over 30 years as trap director at two different clubs I don’t recall ever giving out a 100 patch or seeing a perfect 100 at any competition at another club. Tain’t easy, if it was nobody would want to do it.

I think that the older you get the harder it gets. Most of these kids our club sends to the Provincials and Canadians have all shot 75 straight and many have shot 100 straight and most have only been shooting for 2 or 3 years. Those young eyes and reflexes combined with the fact that many of them don't have a care or worry in the world is a great recipe for achieving.

That is very true, we have a small club, an average age of over 50, and those of us that have shot 75 or 100 straight, did so, many years ago. I actually haven't seen a 75 or 100 shot at our club, a couple of us have shot 50 recently, but most of us are past our best before date, and some like myself shoot a high percentage of 410 or doubles skeet.
