Winchester 333 packs, which is older?

Just going through some .22LR ammo I had stored away and was curious, which one of these is the older box? I haven't bought "cheap" bulk in about 10 years, or even looked at it in store, so no idea if either of these are still on the shelves. I want to use up some of this lower end ammo on the gophers in the pasture and want to work through the older stuff first. Thanks!

I never bought Win 333, but bought many Win 555 - like say 8 to 10 years ago - circa 2015 - in the red boxes like you show on right of the picture. Was at a Co-op gas station - once I bought out all they had on hand, they never did get any more - and they no longer sell any ammo, either.

I don't expect anyone else do do this, but because I am old, a bit of a details nerd, and like to spreadsheet everything...I write down the lot numbers of every single box of ammo I own, and spend time researching what the corresponding manufacture date is. This way I can employ the old FIFO method of using my ammo (first in, first out).

For Winchester, there are some online guides on how to determine dating via the lot number. From that you can tell definitively.

Over time, the box designs do change, so sometimes it is easy to tell the difference. Federal with the designs make it fairly easy to map out the corresponding dates. Some Federal boxes have a copyright FCC year on it (ie. FCC 2016). Even if you don't know the exact date, you'll know that it is at least from 2016 or newer.

If I were to take an educated guess I would say that the left (white box) is the newer box. If you want a more educated answer on it, share the lot numbers on both boxes and I can see what I can dig up.

I think the Red box is the older stuff also. if you haven't checked prices in a while don't . and make every shot count . they will work fine for Gophers. happy hunting .
