7.62x39 bolt gun which one?

If your having issues mounting scopes, I had success with a BKL cantilevered scope rail on a Baikal single shot to help with extending the short length of the receiver grooves on that rifle. The BKL's work on3/8" rimfire grooves and also the metric size that is similar but not the same.

Purchased from D&L Airgun in B.C.

I haven't tried to scope it yet but I appreciate the info nonetheless. It'll likely be very helpful jn the future.

Thanks all. Going make the call to just stick with the .223 as my bolt gun of choice for plinking. I enjoy the SKS immensely it’s only short fall for me was the lack of ability to use a scope. So to alleviate this I think I will do what I should have from the start and get myself prescription shooting glasses (cheaper than another rifle lol) and work at shooting with irons a bit better.

In the end having 2 different style rounds of one caliber is no different then having two different calibers. So just going to shoot off the bulk .223 and keep just the higer grade stuff in a lower amount.

Time to put the bourbon back in the cabinet brother :)

That was Japanese Whiskey!
There is an old joke on the subject. A drunk dude stumbles upon a girl, looks her up and looks her down and says "Girl, you have crooked legs!" Astonished girl says "And you, mister, are drunk!". " Yes," - he replies - "but I'll be sober tomorrow!.."

CZ 600 Alpha is the ticket.

18.5” barrel, threaded for brake
Mini (scaled down) action with integrated picatinny rails
Mags are $40 a piece
Total weight is 5.5 pounds.

I recall some saying the Howa did not have problems with surplus ammo. Even hard primer Czech ammo was not a problem.
Some commented the CZ 527 could be finnicky with Czech ammo and fail to ignite the hard primers.
I wonder if the CZ Alpha 600 will have better luck with Czech ammo?

I've fired chinese ms from 3 diff cases with NO FTF. My accuracy at 180 in earlier post was last year, now a bit better but I really would need more than 3-9 to get smaller groups. The Chinese at ca 3MOA and the Barnaul at ca sub-2MOA is good enuf for me and I've got a few boxes of Barn SP if i want to hunt - I wouldn't go over 150 or so anyway with an x39.

I have read that the CZ was specifically designed to be reliable with mil-surp ammo and its hard primers. My old CZ527 and my Ruger Ranch never had a problem with any of the various cheapo mil-surp ammo types I tried in them; 100% ignition 100% of the time, over 500 or so rounds through the CZ and well over 1000 through the Ruger.

The Zastava "mini-mauser" fired factory ammo beautifully, but I doubt that it ever got through an entire magazine-full of mil-surp without at least one misfire, which might or might not be coerced into firing with a second hit on the primer.

No experience with or ideas about the Howa mini, although other Howas I have owned have been lovely functional rifles.

The Ruger Ranch is an excellent deal for the money with rail and threaded muzzle. Make sure you get it for around $750 or even a bit less, I saw Tenda had them for $719 last week. I ordered the AR mag adapter from Gravel agency, takes a while but it is in the mail now. I did not want to deal with the Mini 30 magazines, too expensive and 5 round limit. Very accurate, mine is finished nicely but I heard that can vary, plastic mass production. CZ is better for sure but also more money.

There is a thread in hunting rifles here on gunnutz about exactly the same subject a few months ago, one guy really did not like the Howa. Look it up, interesting read.

Had a CZ in 7.62x39. One of the worst rifles I have owned. The bolt was a bad fit. Like pushing through gravel. Something I might expect from a $100 rifle. Not from a CZ.

Had the Ruger and didn't like it, replaced it with the suppressor ready cz 527..... 16" threaded barrel. Also has the zastava and didn't like it either.

The set trigger is what makes the 527. It is at minimum a $250 option from other rifle makers like Tikka to get on a rifle, Steyr was over $400 for the set trigger option many years ago

Reading the negatives in regards to the CZ527 and it all sounds foreign to my experience.

Was shooting the 527 out to 400yrd with a Bushnell 3-9 last week. Love that gun. LOVE the set trigger.

Find one and don't let go!

OR try out the CZ Alpha in x39. No personal experience however mags are available cheap, rifle is cheap, rifle feels cheap.. Super light rifle

Supposedly that is actually a quote from Winston Churchll directed at MP Bessie Braddock when she said "Winston, you are drunk, and what’s more you are disgustingly drunk." to which he replied "My dear, you are ugly, and what’s more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly."

100 reliable with RU, chinese and cheq ammo that i ran through it.

I found another target from last summer, Ruger at 100. Center bull 2-out of 3 sub-MOA, Right bull MOA; all with Ch-MS with 3-9x40 Bushnell Duplex scope. ->

I have had a great experience with the CZ 527. Sadly let it go and that was a mistake the new 600s look quite interesting though.

Has anyone put a ruger american ranch in 7.62. X39 in an MDT chassis? Im looking for a pistol grip stock and a ar stock
