Phil contacted me late last year about ordering a couple of knives for himself and his wife. After a little back and forth he decided on a design and materials and, very graciously, gave me until "Cummunist Christmas" 2023 to deliver. Well in plenty of time I wrapped these up and, with the exception of adding them to my maker's log, they are ready to go out the door for some adventures in the Yukon.

Both are based off my "German Hunter" pattern and made out of 154CM stainless with 416 stainless pins and dovetailed bolsters. Of course Phil, in true left-hander fashion, wanted me to use caribou antler as the handle material. I have to say, caribou are my favourite animal, but their antler is tough to work with due to the porosity. But all in all I think they turned out really nicely and I'm looking forward to seeing some action shots from their moose hunt this fall and other adventures.

Thanks for entrusting me with this job Phil. I hope you love the knives.

Not sure why Imgur isn't playing nice but this seems to be the only photo that wants to upload for some reason.

Very nice, love that blade shape for a hunting knife.

How would you describe this blade shape?

Communist Christmas is my birthday, just saying :dancingbanana:

Nice looking knives for sure. I have a similar model with cocobolo handles made by Adam Smith back in the 1980s. Saint Nicholas Day is indeed on Dec 6 and aside from the Soviet Bloc countries is much celebrated by the Dutch, as I was always being told having worked with several of them. There was some sort of communist angle there too however, I now understand it a bit better.

You know of course, people will be pm'ing you wanting to get into the club. How many Kanadian pesos for a knife?

It all depends on options, mostly handle material. That stuff runs from fairly reasonable to surprisingly high so it's always best to discuss. I will say that I forgot to charge Phil a Left-Handed Surcharge so I guess he got a bargain!

A standard knife like what Phil ordered starts at $350 shipped, unless the cost of steel and supplies starts to rise.
