Sucks to see what we could have had - Norinco Type 03 Rifle

Here is the civilian version of the Norinco Type 03. I believe these were intended to be imported to Canada, based on the 18.6” barrel and the specification that the mags are pinned to 5 rounds. If I recall correctly, Tactical Imports was looking into getting these imported a few years back, but the RCMP determined they were “too easy to convert to full auto”.

Really unfortunate, this could have been an awesome cheap, yet modern and modular 5.56 semi auto for the Canadian market.

I'm willing to speculate that what you're already looking at in the link is what North Sylva has in the works with them, hence the "NSR" (North Sylva Rifle) product code attached to the rifle. It's the same as the T97 NSR, and some other products NS has a hand in designing for the Canadian market.

Then again I could be completely wrong and the acronym could be completely unrelated.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised to see North Sylva offering them within the next year or so provided they aren't legislated away before then

That’s a super smart connection right there and makes total sense. The sad part is you’re giving me hope for something cool but at least it’s something to look forward to.
