Where has the summer gone? We are only 30 days away from the waterfowl opener! Seems like only a few weeks have passed since e were chasing spring snows...getting excited already. Have some new decoys ordered and I'm stocked up on ammo. Almost go time! :)

So damn ready. Over the past few weeks I perfected the blind for the beavertail phantom. Picked up a stealth 1200 the other day for when I go with a partner.

Your gonna make us salivate and dream how these outfits look without posting a pic. Really ?? PLEEEEeeese On another note I purshased a Shotkam Gen4 so I can video. Tried it out at my local club for the first time on Sunday and shot 24 on a round of wobble skeet. Wouldve been cool to shoot a straight with the camera on the first go round. Dam 6 low haha. Ill have to get my young computer buddy to help me post videos on here. Gonna definately film the commerant hunts. Good luck to all.

Wobble skeet? Your club has skeet machines with wobble bases?

That’s what they refer it as. The machines are on an accentric cam so they pivot up and down. There are no singles thrown other than 8 high house. Report pairs and doubles from every station. Station seven the low bird is shot first and then the high for safety reasons. Station eight is a high single then it’s doubles facing the low house and shooting the high as it passes. They can be pretty high or pretty low and you don’t ever know what you’ll get. Straights are not common. It really speeds up a round. About 1/2 the time to complete.

Laugh2 sorry. I like to keep things very light and mobile. Also, quickly removable so I can strip it down to the bare boat for transport. I cut custom lengths of bungee cords and run them along the sides. This secures the camo netting and will also hold cattails and other natural stubble. Two more bungees crossing in X pattern to keep the netting elevated above my body. Setup and takedown of bungees and netting is about 2-3min. This is the phantom.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics. Looks awesome. Low profile puddle duck slaying machine. Layout blind on the water. Great ideas using the bungees . Quick and cheap and easily replaced. Thanks and now I have to buy something else haha.

We've shot skeet playing around in a aimilar fashion but our skeet machines do bot have a wobble system. So are you guys locking them in at a given height or are they continually moving up/down/up as the machine is running. On our old westerns we could turn the cam actuating motor off and set them where we wanted or turn it on so the height of the flight was always changing shot to shot within a given amount of range.

The machines are constantly moving up and down. The high house at its lowest point will put the bird in the ground not very far past the low house. The low house in its lowest point fires the bird pretty much parallel to the ground, a slight bit higher at the mid point but pretty flat. So a really high bird and a really low bird creates problems and many times the second bird is lost without being fired at. Gottah be quick and scanning for the second target. The report birds aren’t as bad but the doubles can be difficult. It’s great practice for field gunning. Used the Shotcam again yesterday and shot 23 missing 6 low double and 8 low double. Shot rite at 8low and 6 low. Rookie mistakes by an old buzzard! Haha Love the camera. Shows the good and the bad. Can’t wait to use it hunting.

That is pretty cool and sounds like fun.

The ability to switch on bluetooth and review footage makes the shotkam a great tool to confirm where the bird was hit, where it went down, and who gets that ankle jewelry. I dont hunt with a dog so the camera has helped me retrace my steps and get on downed birds a few times. But yeah, also shows the "what was I thinking!!?" moments Laugh2

We have two shotkams, a gen 3 and gen 4. Can't say they'd help me locate a downed bird as I rarely follow them to the ground with it as I'm usually shooting at another after downing the 1st , 2nd and so on so my gun is usually going from bird to bird in a flock picking out another target but it's great to watch the footage and see what you did wrong to learn from.

Sometimes just seeing a landmark on the horizon or in the treeline at the time you take your shot is all you need to get a line/direction to where the bird fell. Not a concern for shooting at singles, usually when I have trouble finding a bird, it's when I swing to the next one and lose your bearings. Before I got the shotkam I used to run a gopro. So damn clunky and more of a pain connecting to the device through wifi and reviewing shots. The most obvious solution is to get a dog :d

I spent a bit of money during the off season, thanks to sales and rebates. I was waiting for the Franchi to be in stock when I bought the A5 because it was on sale. Of course, the Franchi was in stock shortly after f:P:2: Ahh well. Might be retiring the SBE2 this year.

I just made the trip to Saskatoon and back, and several fields are already combined, and the geese are flocking up. I will start my season at the Camp Wainwright Sharptail hunt, then it's waterfowl and pheasant.
