Best .270 hunting rifle under $1500

Honestly it's just the bolt handle that ruins it for me. I like the stock design just fine, minus the squared off butt of the Hawkeyes with spacers. Practical but ugly, just like modern steyr rifles with the same.

I don't think the ruger ring mounts can be beaten. Machined in pic/weaver mounts on new CZ and SAKO may come close but I don't know that it's a look I will ever get used to

RSM and internationals are another story...

Used A7 is a great choice if you can find one.

A and L series SAKO represent a killer deal in today's market. They are on par in terms of production with pre 64 m70s and modern high end options for much less money.

Both can be had for less than a t3x if you watch the e.e

Someone's old mauser custom in a wildcat or B&C might meet the criteria

Ruger m77 mkii and hawkeye will not win any beauty pageants but are simply solid guns

There are not many of those left any more. I was lucky I had one in 2017. I went to the local gun dealer and asked for a 7mmo8. He said he did not have a 7 mm08 but had a new Sako A7 270 win on sale at $899. I jumped on the occasion and never looked back. This rifle shoots regularly 0.5-07 moa. My best group was with NP 150 and 57 grains H4831 at 0.3 moa. This was my first rifle and first love. I will never get rid of that A7. When the time comes, I will try to re-barrel if I can. Definitely the best quality/price gun I ever bought.

Even tried to continue taxiing away saying I’ll buy him something else, but I’m afraid I would have been shopping for a new head guide instead of a new rifle if I didn’t turn back for it.

Well, you tried!

Funniest thing I've read in quite a while. Was thinkin of that old "the cat came back" cartoon...

That was my head guide’s rifle, I even tried dropping it out the door of a taxiing floatplane but it floated just long enough to be retrieved.

That’s a FUNNY storey there ! Laugh2. RJ

Its the foam filled stock man lol. Good to know hahaha

I'm not particularly enamoured with the Tikka, but in the price range doesn't seem to be much new in the WSM. The Model 70 is a beauty but over $2k. In the same price range is the 270 Wby.

The XPR in 6.8 is another option given Ontario's 270 rule and it can use heavier bullets.

I would have. Just to make sure. :d

I laughed so hard at this the people around me thought I was choking...

I dunno, the 783 in 450 Bushmaster is something I regret not buying.

I would have sold you the one I had with a gouge in the feed ramp that couldn't feed rounds new from the factory.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone buys these and XPRs, I'd rather have a savage axis.

No thats not right, I'd rather hunt with a pointed stick
