Best rifle for 20 yard Sporting?

I joined a 20 yard three position Sporting league and my Ruger 10/22 with a 3-9 scope is embarrasing.
Last week I shot a buddie's Anschutz single shot with peep sights and came in second.
What is the best rifle for three position? Where can I get one at a reasonable price?

I used to shoot my Savage MkII and later switched to remington 597. I know those aren't exactly target rifles but our club allows scopes so what the heck.
You can order Savage MkII with peep sights, there is one fine shot in our club and thats what he is using.

The thing about 3p shooting is that ergonomics and trigger is everything, no sence buying something that doesn't fit you. Of course you can buy hi-end Walther where everything is adjustable but for now can I recommend you borrowing club rifles. Almost all clubs I happened to be a member of have descent TOZ's and Annies.

The most widely used rifle in the Sporting class is the Anschütz 64 (model 1403) or its CIL/Anschütz variations (Models 180 and 190). There is one for sale at Collector's Source (http://www.collectorssource.com/category.asp?catid=11 ) but they are also rather easy to find. Just post a WTB ad here in the classifieds and I'm sure you'll get many offers.

As Paul mentioned the guns most used for sporting competition are anschutz. I use a CIL 190 my self - 1403 is a tad bit better but CIL works for me (won provincials with this gun in 3p)

Sounds like you nailed it with the Anschutz - I think you have your answer...

Call North Silva in Toronto - they have a target shop and sell Anschutz and other target rifles (and pistols) to civilians.
