Best way to tear down 1000 rounds of 308

So I have a thousand rounds of reloaded 308, 155 FMJ loaded way too hot to be useful to me or anyone else. Any time saving tips for how to tear it apart for resale would be greatly appreciated.

One of those FA wall mounted tools will be about the quickest and easiest on yourself. I have kinetic tools, and press tools. All have their place, but for bulk work like that< I would go with the FA. - dan
 
Get yourself a RCBS collet bullet puller or send em to me for disposal

I second the RCBS collet bullet puller. I used one to pull 120 rounds of 243 Winchester I picked up on a trade for components. Used in my single stage press - didn't take long at all. The projectiles did not get damaged as far as I could see.

Recommended, but caliber specific collets required.

OP, if you do this on a regular basis than do as dan belisle suggests and set up an Frankland Arsenal puller.

If you're doing this as a one off, then go for the RCBS or Forester puller that has collets and installs in your press. If you have a progressive press then it becomes more difficult.
 
I have a Hornady collet puller, works like a charm.
Also in Regina

I second the Hornady collet puller, the lever action makes it quicker.
I had to pull 300 of someone else’s reloads a while back and it took less than an hour with my setup.
YMMV but it’s worth looking at.
 
I've used the Hornady cam-lock (collet) puller to remove a couple thousand military rounds. Came across a recommendation somewhere that bumping the seating depth prior to pulling would help crack the waterproofing, which I now heartily endorse.
 
Collet puller- RCBS/Hornady/whatever in a single stage press. Personally I have the RCBS one but they are all similar enough to just use what you can find. I've never pulled 1000 loads, but I have broken down a box of 50 a few times and the collet works well without damaging the bullet so it can be re-used. Need caliber specific collet...
 
When you purchase the sets from Forester or RCBS, they come with all of the collets needed to pull bullets from 17cal to 458cal.

I found that the Forester collets would hold the bullets better and not leave any marks.

Depending on how deep the bullets are seated, if there isn't enough of a "straight" area beneath the ogive, then the bullets have to be seated a few thou deeper, just enough to break the sealant and you might be able to get the collet to hold them long enough to extract.

Otherwise, you will have to break the sealant and go to an inertia puller.
 
Thanks. Is it compatible with a Lee press? I’m assuming dies don’t matter as it looks to have a universal die body, but for which you need cartridge specific Hornady collets?

Yes, standard size threads, like most dies, I'm using it in the RCBS rock chucker.
You will need the caliber specific collet, when I bought mine I bought one for .30 cal and another for 8mm, found out that the .30 cal pulls 8mm no problem though.
 
his is blazing fast. It screws into the press. Round is stroked up, pushing bullet throught he fingers. On the down stroke, bullet stays in place, he next round pops it out the top. I used one of these to pull several hundred thousand rounds of308.

Ganderite, does that handy little puller leave a compression ring on the bullet??? I've never seen one like it before. Sure would have came in handy when I pulled 5k of Norwegian 8x63 projectiles.
 
If you're going to salvage these for your F Class gun (although I think you once told me that you compete with 185 Jugger's), then I would recommend an inertia hammer.
It will suck because it will take much longer than any cam lock die..... but a cam lock puller will almost guaranteed make all of your ogives (& bearing surface lengths) very inconsistent.
Thats my 2 cents.
