Is anyone hunting a 6mm ARC?

I can't see ARC performing poorly with the 95 gr. 6mm in general are excellent in the crosswind, thanks to the BC and velocity. Coyote, deer, sheep and not limited to, I could think of.
I used Tikka 243 heavy varmint barrel with 1:8 twist which then was cut, rechambered and re-threaded for Ruger.

Probably going to be a broke b**ch and use a Savage here but it'll do.
Does seem a lot more capable than say, 7.62x39 (except for cheap surplus) considering the amount of powder burned and what you get out of it. If it can get going to around 2900 fps that 95gr LRX would still be plenty deer capable at 300-350 yards. And no prob! 9x35 would be really cheap to load and plink with and a pretty hard hitter at brush hunting ranges with the right bullet.

I personally consider 7.62x39 more capable for hunting at 300-350 yards. Beyond that 6mm gets an edge, imho.
Rifle was indeed for sale and was sold, as a successful testing platform for me. I am now replicating the setup on the Ultimatum action. Also working on the T81 for semi version.
MDT has newly developed AICS mags, specifically designed for 6mm ARC / 6.5 Grendel - they are available now.
I personally consider 7.62x39 more capable for hunting at 300-350 yards. Beyond that 6mm gets an edge, imho.

I do believe in larger bore vs velocity, at the close/medium ranges, for that reason 45-70 is my all time fav

Also there is video of American vet comparing the effect of the 7.62 vs 5.56 on living beings, where 7.62 inflict significantly more instant damages, in his words. Handloading the 7.62 can go a long way for accuracy, imo.

Well the one dude on Youtube isn't talking about hunting bullets and animals, but FMJ and people. Bit of a different story, and a Speer 75gr Gold Dot, Barnes or TMK 77gr makes that point very well.

One thing that might really give the 7.62x39 a bit more legs is loading it with Barnes TaxcTX 110 ad 120gr bullets meant for 300 BLK velocities, especially seeing how they do from short barrels! Kind of the "gold standard" for that cartridge.
Accurate! The GMX 110gr too. But never killed anything with them.
6mm ARC was developed by Hornady for the US military, specifically to pierce body armor at long range - 900-1000m. With the right expansion this much energy should be adequate for medium game even at that distance (ethics of long shots aside).

The 7.62x39 case head is probably why this class of cartridges hasn’t taken off. It would be nice to just rebarrel and roll. The ARC is essentially a fast twist ppc. A fast twisted 6/223 gives up a bit of speed but has an easier custom build entry. Could probably use any 243 type die for neck sizing to reduce the cost of wildcat dies. Pussyfoot recoil plus legal for big game is a big win. If playing the very edge of capability matters to you.

My brother in Alberta bought one of those cheap Savage Axis 2 6mmARC's that were floating around last year. He thought it was a POS when it arrived. He adjusted the trigger down 2.8lbs and took to the range and stacked 5 rounds on top of each other.
What he likes is there is no recoil to speak of.
We have a large family farm back there and he was sitting in a tree stand off one of our fields. Well a 10pt mulie popped out in the other field 500yds away. We hunted there for 50 years so we know our ranges very well. He was zeroed for 200yds and said what the hell. He dropped it 487yds (lasered from the buck back to the stand). Held 3 inches high off the front elbow and he hit it dead on..
He had full passthrough at 500yds. Jesus. It was just boxed Hornady Hunter ammo.

It does. Same if you rebarrel a 700 to 6 PPC. It's close, but not quite there. PTG sells a 700 bolt with the correct face. Delivery is slow however. Some 308 bolt faces will extract the ppc cases, if the extractor is slightly oversized. - dan

The Axis is exactly what I am looking at too, they're junky but I like them lol
At least there's a source for bolts, eve if they take forever!
