Im lookin to rattlecan a couple of oem synthetic stocks...plastic liekly??
Ruger Americans

There is likely some better choices in spraycan paint for this task than others ??
Suggestions?

I used a VHT brand of spray paint that was for frames and roll bars. Got it at Canadian tire. It worked better than anything else I found. Even outlasted the clear coat I put on top.

Make sure that you clean and degrease before spraying. Isopropyl alcohol works well. Also recommend a self etch primer before top coat of whatever cam you are putting on. Lots of videos and tips online how to do this.

Surface prep and a good primer is key to proper paint adhesion, especially on plastic. Pick a brand of paint and use their primer, paint and clear coat. Mixing and matching brands of spray paint products can give you wrinkling or cracking between stages sometimes.

there is some posts on rokslide about applying bondo to plastic stock, if looking for a project.

personally id invest the money into a new stock you actually like that might give performance gains.

Don’t do it.

I sanded brake cleaned, and followed all Krylon curing directions. Multiple coats waiting two days at a time…. Then clear coated. Waited two weeks, looked clean, took it to the range, one shot off the barricade and peeled off a chuck.

Get it cerakoted by a professional lol

Thanks for the tips...Im just doin a pair of Ruger American Ranch bolts in 762 and 556.....doesnt need to be anything special...I just cant stand dirt coloured guns...and its all Ruger seems interested in making them in ....FFS

Im fine with the configuration and handling of the stocks for the mission these lil buggers are for ....just gotta suppress that dirt colour

They certainly dont need any help in accuracy...both shoot generic ammo nearly moa and under moa with inexpensive hunting ammo....they have replaced my ARs as a compact fast handling plinker/varminter/defender...sadly as my facist lefty blindly arrogant incompetent govt has sent my ARs and M14s to purgatory status ..^*%#@$^())))__

Funny....the govt was totally fine with me carrying an AR for their will ......and now I am deemed unsafe to possess/use one.......

Choir may be seated :)

I dont expect miracles out of a rattlecan job....just looking for advice on it working out as practically as possible....cant get worse than the fugly dirt brown they are now

Im thinkin an urban camo grey/white/black sorta thing

everythings been said, really. Make sure to wait atleast a week before clear coating. It has to finish off-gassing before you try to lock it all in.....

Back when the original Krylon Fusion spray paint came out, it was advertised as being specifically intended for painting plastic; something about the paint bonding to the plastic, almost like a solvent. I used it on a couple of stocks and other projects and it worked very well, and was exceptionally durable compared to other paints I have used on stocks.

The current Fusion product seems to be marketed more as a general purpose spray paint; no idea if it's just a different marketing tactic or if they have actually changed to stuff.

It’s bloddy near impossible to find Krylon in general let alone their camo line, everyone seems to have switched to Rustoleum. Rusto is better paint but their camo offerings aren’t exactly true to what the camo colours should be unfortunately.

I have never seen a Ruger American Ranch in person but I did RIT dye a magazine. Don’t think it will wear off like paint. Could potentially do a stock I would think

Rustoleum 2X works good on plastic as advertised. Prep with alcohol or brakecleaner.
Here's a couple rattle can Ruger's
