Is the Benelli R1 the last of the semi-autos in 338 WinMag?

I've been on a hunt for a semi auto offered in a caliber larger than 30-06 for some time now and it seemed that of the larger offerings, 338 WinMag was the most common.

I had.my sights set on a Browning BAR in 338 but it appears they have discontinued all models that were available in that caliber.

If I'm buying new, Is the R1 my only remaining option? Im hoping to rebarrel/chamber for 458 WinMag in whatever I decide to go with.

I would recommend buying an r1, very soft shooting for a 338. Good friend of mine has one.
The 458 conversion , if possible would be amazing

Good to know, I've seen several people comment on how soft shooting it is and how well it soaks up the recoil.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of how the rifle looks vs the BAR....but that would be a minor gripe.

I know that both BARs and some M1 Garands have been converted to 458 WinMag.

I'm guessing any semi auto designed for the 30-06 length action with a Magnum bolt face could handle the conversion.

I'm also curious how much of that recoil a semi auto will mitigate vs the bolt action, assuming the rifles weigh the same.

Magnums in general have less interest in the shooting community and have fallen off the edge of the sales world. All those that bought into the magnum craze of the 60s and 70s are dying off and are being replaced with shooters who are not interested. When this happens, there are enough used guns floating around to keep the few happy without making more new guns. The same thing happened with the M94s. There are lots of used ones out there.

That's an interesting theory... think you have something there.
