Does anyone here have this tool for staking a 870? If so, please send me a private message - I have a few questions for you.

There’s a better tool for the job.

I'll revitalize this thread. Someone walk me through the process of "staking" the latch using a hammer and punch (center punch? Nail set punch? Standard punch?), also OP, not sure what the original picture is, but brownells will ship to Canada and does list a tool meant for the 870 and 1100 to stake latches, part # is 080870203

Some think a punch works... You can cobble it with a punch but after seeing so many screwed up I bought the Brownells tool. Back then you could buy just the hardened stake and make the rest... I used a piece of 1/2 inch x 2 inch bar stock.

I made wood wedges that would compress the latch fully into the recess before staking it in place and always placed a trigger group pin through the hole to make sure it was correctly located.

Sure it does, but not a financially sound purchase for a seldom used item, same as a forend nut removal tool when a 1⅛ spade but and adjustable wrench will do

Whatever works for your budget and use. Having been one who does repairs on firearms, I found it prudent to get the correct tools.
