Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

So far my optic has returned to zero every time without any adjustment. I think if you are mechanically inclined its an easy job to get repeatable lock up when reinstalling the top hanguard. To be fair though that is a potential issue with any optic mounted handguard. Not sure what is more secure then screws with a little bit of blue locktite.

I bought a type 81 optics ready fixed stock rifle from a major retailer back in february. Has the right hand safety and red furniture, but NO THREADED PINS. Does anyone have a rifle thats like this?

Optics ready means, right hand safety threaded AND pins. That's the point.

How did you thread the muzzle? It doesn't look like you are using the aftermarket barrel sleeve. Also one last question, when you took the barrel sleeves off was there surface rust underneath? Everyone I have taken off so far has surface rust underneath.

Got my Sigma Quadrail yesterday, this thing is GOAT. Very solid, great quality, nice big screws and you only need to remove 4 of them for cleaning. Love it.

Dlask threaded them for me, and no sign of surface rust under either of my sleeves.

Picked up one of the sigmaco m14x1 barrel sleeves to replace the grenade sleeve. M14x1 happens to be what the FAL flash hiders are so I figured why not, can mount my C1 bayonet on my 81 now.

Just about got this where I’m happy with it. I’ve got the stock pulled off and sent away to have a new, 2” longer one made up. The. It’ll actually match the dong and pistol grip properly. After that it’s just making the upper portion of the forend.

What mounts are guys running on the Sigmaco side rail? I want a full length pic rail and am thinking of grabbing an Midwest Industries AK side mount. Also, is there a mount that is better than others for getting your optic on the rifle's centreline or do most guys use and offset zero?

The RS regulate mounts appearently can be shifted from side to side. Any concern of left or right offset is cosmetic in nature. Ballistically its negligible when it comes to red rifle performance.

Well, I failed on the picture taking front because we had too much fun shooting to remember to take any. Yesterday went out with some guys from work and brought out, among other things, the T81 LMG. We were messing around with plates at 100 yards, ~500 yards, and one at ~850 yards. Couldn't figure out what the manufacturer was using as reference when marking the sight adjustments as when we switched from the 100 to 500 yard plate and I dialed the wheel to the 5, we were hitting like 10 feet high. Ended up dialing back down to the 1 and were correct for elevation. Then for the 850, it seemed keeping the sight on 1 and just using the top notch on the sight worked well enough. Given the wind of shooting across a small valley, the limits of our own skill, and the obvious limits of x39 bulk surplus ammo, we were making mainly just a bunch of noise and few impacts lol

Our 500 yard plate was about 8"x14" and we were dancing all around it (if it had been a 14x14 we would have hit it LOTS) with hits about every 10th shot. Our 850 yard was about a 18"x18" and we stirred up a lot of dust around it, but only hit it twice for all the rounds we chucked. As expected, of the 150 rounds we ran through the gun, zero malfunctions
