Budget 1911 owner here. I bought a Canuck 1911 Commander in 9mm before the freeze, and have about 1000 rounds through it now. I've got a few other budget guns, from Tokarevs to NP22s to a Glock 48 MOS, but this Canuck 1911 has got to be my favorite for the crisp trigger, accuracy and reliability. I have not had any malfunctions of any kind, using the 9-round flush Mec-Gar magazines that it came with, nor the 10-round MecGar Competition magazines that I've also used.
I'd like to make this a thread on parts compatibility and reviews for the Canuck line of 1911s. Perhaps this information has already been posted somewhere else, and my search skills probably just suck, but I can't find any other info on these apart from a couple of 45ACP stainless 1911s by vkyle91x and Germán Sarmiento on Youtube.

Co-worker has one in stainless. The fit and finish is world's better than a Norinco, factory trigger is pretty good, nice large sights. Is it $400-700 better than a Norinco 1911A1, not really.

Canuck firearms are manufactured in Turkey and imported by O'Dell Engineering, local to Select Shooting Supplies and a great provider of customer service and support for your Canuck firearm should the need arise.

The firearms are made to O'Dell specifications in Turkey, by Tisas, the grips are made in Niagara Falls ON by Artisan grips. -O'Dell Engineering Ltd.
The folks over on the 1911 Reddit forum seem to have a decent amount of respect for Tisas branded 1911s, and if they're the ones manufacturing the Canuck brand, would it be safe to assume that parts compatibility is good? I've tried reaching out to O'Dell Engineering but have never heard back from them.
Eventually, I will need to purchase replacement and upgraded parts. While it's functioning at 100% right now, I'd rather pick up spare parts and upgrades now - in case these also become harder to source later on down the road.
Things that I'm interested in:
- New sights - What do I need to know about sizing and compatibility? In an ideal world, I'd like to have tritium sights in perfect alignment with an RMR-style red dot sight.
- Mechanical maintenance - springs, levers, pins compatibility with other brands of 1911 parts.
- Slides and barrels - I don't know what I don't know about optic slide cuts, compatibility with other 1911 barrels (e.g. longer barrels, different brands, threaded barrels, etc).
Thanks in advance. I can't be the only Canuck 1911 owner on this forum.
