I heard it a little different, cook it with a 5 pound stone, then eat the stone, more tender. LOL!!! However, is it by law to eat those birds or is it for cull purposes to rid of them? I thought I heard that there was a cull on them because they were depleating the fish population and crapping all other the islands and other landmarks on the Saint Lawrence River.
 
I shot a couple last year and left them in the bush for the hungry critters. The coons, foxes, coyotes and whatever other scavengers lurking back there didn’t touch them….

If you dispose of them in a manner that isn't inviting public attention, all will be all good.

Exactly! Don't leave them at the boat launch, don't chuck them in the ditch next to a sidewalk on a busy road, Don’t throw them in a dumpster for the next person to find and don’t leave them floating in the water.

Dispose of them in a manner that is not inviting someone else to find them and bringing unwanted attention to the hunting activity. If you want to try eating them, have at it and best of luck to you. Its a mistake you’ll certainly not likely to repeat.
 
Technically theyre to be buried or disposed of at a land site that accepts dead animals like the ones farmers use. They do in fact make great fertilizer and as far as Sandhill cranes not making great table fare? Pretty sure the moniker of RIB EYE OF THE SKY didnt come to fruition cuz theyre not great eating. Ive only had them twice and it was delicious and wish we could hunt them in my area. It may be due to the time of year or what theyve been eating but a lot of Merkins hunt them very seriuosly as well as swans because of how great table fare they are. Another thirty bite the dust CASH the black lab is now 17 months old and has almost 1000 water retrieves under her collar. Incredible dog. The count continues but our group between the river and the bigger local lakes has already surpassed the 200 mark. Good ridance!! More pics to follow
