Well, I just returned from a successful Elk hunt in the Peace River country.
Small cow, but will be great on the plate.

My buddy [not hunting, but helping] thought I missed the shot. She was
sort of hiding behind two large cottonwoods, and facing sharply away.

Tucked the bullet in as close to the tree as I dared, and at the shot, she
bolted. My friend said...I can't believe you missed! I replied, unless I grazed
that big cottonwood, I did not miss. [shot was about 120 yards]

Sure enough, she only made into a small depression 30 meters away. down
and out. 8mm Rem Mag/200 A-frame at 3175 fps MV. [Recovered]

Bullet entered at the first rib on her left, and was found under the hide at the
front of the right shoulder. Pics of elk and bullet to follow. Dave.

Excellent Dave ! Yes she will Great on a Plate . Nice Shot but I am surprised you recovered the bullet - I guess that shoulder meat really WOWED up that AFrame ! RJ

Yes, JIm, I was a bit surprised, myself, but stranger things have happened. The bullet looks typical A-Frame in it's Expansion. Mushroom measures .700" at widest point. Rear core moved forward,
bulging the jacket just behind the partition. Retained weight = 192.1 grains. :) Dave.

Congrats on a successful hunt and food harvested for the year! That is a great calibre and bullet choice for Elk. Looking forward to the pictures :)

Out of curiosity what is the rifle platform used ? A 200gr bullet going that fast can’t be pleasant in a lightweight rifle. (Mind you hunting recoiled is very different from bench recoil as we all knows ;] )

The rifle is built on a 700 action and wears a 26" Benchmark heavy sporter contour SS barrel. It has a Triggertech trigger and is bedded into a HS Precision Synthetic stock.

The build was done by Dennis Sorensen [Guntech]. I found the recoil to be substantial, particularly with the 220 A-Frame at 3025 fps. Thus, it became the only rifle I own
that has a muzzle brake. This rifle is very accurate, often printing 3-shot groups around 1" at 200 meters with either the 200 or 220 A-Frames.

It is basically dedicated to my Elk hunts [Was not really necessary this year, lol] But 3 years ago, I shot a 6x5 Bull at 425 yards. He was down within a couple of steps, 220
A-Frame was not recovered on the broadside shot. If I get drawn for Bison again, It will be with me. :) Dave.

Wow, elk is on my bucket list! I live in the wrong part of the country unfortunately. We have elk not too far from home, but it is very hard to draw a tag.
Congrats on a great hunt, and a great shot!

Thank you all, for the accolades. Elk is always first on my list in the fall because it is soooo good as table fare.
Once I have an elk down, anything else is "icing on the cake" :) Dave.
