Weapon light set up fr Night Brutality

Surefire is the gold standard. I like their M640 DFT-Pro light on a carbine. Not cheap but very high quality. I like having the light at 3:00 (right side) with a pressure switch at 12:00 so I can easily activate it with my off hand when you hold the handguard in a "c-clamp".

We can't click through on that link without registering for an account - Maybe copy/paste relevant event info here?

You have tons of options, it really depends on how much you want to spend and the specifics of the event. The only strong recommendation I have is to stay away from the "no name brand" stuff on Amazon and elsewhere. But you can do quite a lot with mid-tier budget options (Olight etc.). I've successfully used a pistol light on a rifle out to maybe 50-60yds, but it really depends on conditions.

The event on the company website, looks like a LOT of fun, I have a streamlight on my rifle and that works nicely but I'm no expert

I copy pasted this from the website

Night Brutality is an achievable fun event for all not just the pros. This highly controlled safe event will allow those with night vision or a weapon light on their rifle to take part in 8 savage stages that will challenge the shooter and their knowledge of their equipment, themselves and their skills at every level. Not only will this be a competitive event but a huge learning opportunity to learn through experience and meeting a large number of others with the same passion as you. To make the event even more accessible we do not require you to have a handgun but will instead be increasing the number of hits required to be made with rifles if you don’t have one. PCCs are welcome.

Challenges will include making rifle hits from 0 - 200m (with room for bonus hits at 300m) and pistol hits out to 50m. Shooters will need to know their gear and how to use it during and after physical efforts. In addition shooters will need to care for their gear more so than in regular events and all equipment must be maintained on their person (no more dropping mags everywhere). Because of the nature of night shooting if you can not aim an iron sighted firearm through your night vision or if you don’t have night visible iron sights your firearm is not suitable. Group and individual effort stages will be conducted

This shoot will involve challenging physical activity in uncertain weather conditions (It may be cold, raining, snowing or all 3). This can include the movement of heavy objects, moving through undulating terrain at speed and more. Nice big log fires will be present.

So it needs to be tough and hard wearing, my budget is max $250 any suggestions? It will need to go on picatinny or mlok

Never shot these night matches but here are my 2 cents based on non-match experience.

Is it out door or indoor?

If it is outdoor and white light, probably need a minimum of 250 lumen at 25m. Anything beyond you want 500 lumen plus. If it is indoor anything over 500 and if there is light negligent discharge you gonna risk blinding yourself for awhile.

200m with a REGULAR wpn white light such as surefire scout is kinda hmm, not sure how practical the scenario it is IMHO unless you are playing roof top korean -because it is in this awkward zone. You will kinda light up a big swath of area, but it is not bright enough to distinguish everything unless it is a big piece of paper. The contrast between optic recticle and the target is tricky, just so you know. You many have to turn off the illumination to stay black or have just a bit. Usually there are specialized weapon lights ( high lumen, longer throw) for this application at this long range.

You should also have back up iron sight up - incase your recticle get washed out ( but that is kinda getting into how passive you want to be ) Cranking up the intensity of the recticle illumination to make it visible under white light means it is going to be a fireball if you go passive or engaging beyond the range of the throw of the light.

If surefire is outside the budget then the next best thing would be streamlight. The Protac HL-X is 1000 lumens and has a beam distance of 330m. It is available as a mountable weapon light or as a hand held, which can be mounted with a 1" ring. They also have the Protac 2.0 weaponlight which is 2000 lumens but with a beam distance of 250m.

Another thing to consider is your optic. You get a much better sight picture at night using a weapon-mounted light with a rds than a lpvo (just less glass to look through). An offset red dot is really nice for this (if you currently use a LPVO) as well as for use with the nods you will inevitably purchase afterwards, haha.

Since they are running this for NOD, not sure they have will use glow sticks to mark out the COF. I will definitely bring a head lamp for navigation and carry out administration actions.

It says they are running 2 divisions those with night vision and those without.

I imagine there will be lighting at the appropriate areas like safety areas etc. A head light would definitely be a good thing to have especially if they treat handheld flashlights as firearms for safety purposes

Are you going Green Tips or did you mean to say "would" not "will"?

Years ago I did a low/no light scenario for an indoor Alberta IPSC match that included needing to carry and illuminate targets with a flashlight.
i think the only ones who enjoyed it were shooting production, with the open guys having a hate on for it.

IPSC'ers who have a hate on for a stage, do their best to break it so as to disqualify said stage, and therefore their ever so-sh!tty scores from the match.
That meant a lot of throwing the flashlight against concrete....

I used Surefires, and while ending up being dinged up a bit, ate everything thrown at them.

...my budget is max $250 any suggestions?...

After looking at the details that you copied from the event site, I'm doubtful that you can do it on that budget. PROBABLY you can bring whatever you have and your squadmates will help you out if it's not up to the task. Probably.

For $250, maybe the Streamlight Protac HLX is your best bet. You might find an Olight option that has better throw for the money, if you're okay with the brand. And FWIW, the distance numbers listed on any manufacturer's websites are, shall we say, optimistic...

Also, that bit about iron sights and night vision has me puzzled.

For the last night 3 gun match I did I bought 2 el cheapo gun orientated flashlights from Amazon (from memory they were around $30 each) which come with picatinney mounts and pressure switches, I put one of my shotgun and one on my rifle.

Honestly they worked very well (I'm generally the type of person that buys gear towards the upper end of the spectrum but I went cheap with these, how well would they hold up long term - I dont know because multi gun type events have plummeted thanks to the dumbass that is King Turdhole).

For pistol I went with an Olight which worked great and cost around $120 from memory.

Before they came I tried using a head lamp only instead of gun mounted lights but I would strongly advise against this as it doesn't work well at all. By all means run a headlamp which can be turned on as required in the event you need to see / manipulate something on the gun if you have a malfunction but keep it off beyond that.

I've got a Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount HL-X laser with a pressure switch and Streamlight rechargeable battery I was going to put in the EE.
PM me if your interested.
