How much thump does your bullet need while hunting

Just got a moose last Thursday, young bull, 100m, 8x57, 200gn accubond @ 2500fps ish. Shot went in took a rib, took both lungs and a rib on its way out(bullet not recovered) moose died on the spot!
I had moose died slower with 180gn bullet going 2800fps out of 30-06 shot in the same spot!
I was happy with the performance in that specific case/situation!

How far was that shot with your ole parker hale 303 on that goat?

It was actually really close

It's funny how it happened my daughter was swatting at these little flys they looked like "house flys" and I was like " stop you will scare the goats away" then as I finish the sentence I was like " omg don't move" and about 50 yards behind her there is a goat looking at us

It was the goat we were watching cross the basin and he had moved way faster then we had though. So I grabbed my camera and took some pics then she was like "DAD!!! Grab your gun"

So I did and as the goat backed out of sight I ran up and over the bluff he was behind.

We saw each other at the same time..as soon as he stopped and looked I already had my gun lifting up and BANG. His legs locked up and he started rolling. I was so shocked I shot the second time thinking there is no way in hell this thing is running away.

I would have guess he was 50 yards but I can see on the map where it all happened and it says it was more like 25 yards.

1000ft/lb of energy on impact is a good standard to go by.

I have witnessed a bear run 150 yrds after receiving 3500+ ft/lbs is .375 cal. I have also seen a deer stumble a drop in a couple ft after getting about 600ft/lbs of .45 cal.

So I dunno.

I believe put it in the right spot and let them run the blood out of them selves.

If you want to anchor them on the spot. High velocity + shoulder shot usually gives you that.
