Stopping a bear

I shot a blackie with a .22 lr hollow point - Instant flop.
The inuit used to hunt polar bears by leaving a piece of seal fat containing a springy fish bone on the ice. When the bear ate it the bone would get caught in its throat and the hunters would follow it till it starved to death. Now they shoot with a .22 when the .303 isnt handy and follow it.
O yea - I was in a tree stand and shot directly into the top of the skull. Yes I had my shotgun , with the first up - bird (to blind a charger) , the second -buck , and the third - slug.

I removed a thorn from a grizzly's paw once...we're still the best of friends.

Duuuhhh?
Looks like post #29 was a good time for me to leave this alone. I can't afford to loose another 3 points for insulting another member. :slap: That's about all I gotta say.... :D I'm not feeling too good.

I'm not fishing or vtrolling at all.

I have dealt with a bears quite a bit.

I have a little one on the way in April.

I will be hunting and bringing him along as well as fishing and camping in the Mountains bringing him (it;s a boy) and ny wife too.

Since finding out we have a little one on the way, I have myself rethinking a lot of stuff. Like how fast I drive, or the river I tried to walk across up to my neck with stong current, etc etc.

I think I'm trying to think safety and role model a lot more than I used to, and less of the guy who stripped off in late november to swim out and get agoose he shot! (Could've drowned, no one would know)

I'm not loaded with cash, and don't justify buying every flavour of the month. but I do place a big emphasis on safety now.
I pack my 30 30 always when camping and fishing in the mountains and as of yet have only had to #### it, not fire.

Everyone has an oppinion, but very few have experience. That is what I was looking for.
Experienced oppinions. Just alittle reassuranse that keeps my confidence.
It is funny that I never doubted the 30 30 I have, nor my ability with it until I started thinking about having my wife and kid with me.
Actually I'm still not doubting, just looking for some reassurance I guess

Hey Sealhunter.

Surprising how we change when we find out we are about
to be a dad, eh? ;-) I felt the same way when my little one was on the way. Now she's six and I find that I still am in the process of changing....

Pretty interesting experience ;-)
