ok the past couple times ive gone out ive shot a a few hundred rounds through it, ive had a couple problems....

after i fire. it releases it self partially and the casing is half ejected...(WITHOUT me pulling back on the foregrip) ?!?!

another problem is that when im cycling another round into the chamber after firing, it ejects the fired casing properly, but the elevator fails to bring a new round into the chamber, instead it just drops it out the bottom.?

its a fairly new mossberg 500a 5+1 persuader.
its got less than 1000 rounds through it and its only a couple months old...

any help on this? happen to anyone else? :onCrack:

and these problems have only happened with 2 3/4" ammunition? i havent used 3" on it yet, so im sure the problems with it releasing on its own will get worse with 3" slugs recoil being even worse?

Are you putting any pressure on the forward grip (pulling back a little)? Try that a few times while dry firing. You should then have to push away from you then towards you to eject the round.

# 2 I saw this at the club when we had our last newb trap day, I don't know if it's the same problem you are having. It worked when I told them this "It's not a toy its a tool don't be afraid to slap it around".

The problem with the shells dropping out the bottom is probably in the right side shell latch (the pointy one). This one keeps there rest of the shells in the tube, while the lifter brings one up to the chamber. A second cause may be in the notches cut in the slide rails, which actually control when the shell latches open and close. In any event, it should be an easy fix for a competent gunsmith.

Also make sure you work the slide all the way back and foreward. Sometimes, short stroking the action could cause this.

I have a 500, when I first started shooting it, everytime i let one off, the next round would drop out the bottom, before I cycled, so if I loaded 3 rounds, I would only get to shoot 2 then pick one up off the floor! other than that, shes taken a sh!t kickin' and keeps on tickin' I love it!! Oh and the "falling out" when it shoots, it fixed itself with use.

Was the cartridge stop stuck or just too flimsy?

I dont know what happend, Id shoot, and an un-used cartridge would fall out of the bottom (feed hole) so when I extracted the used shell, I would only have 1 left in the tube to feed into the chamber, It was my forst shotgun/longgun of any type, so I had no idea about any of it at all, but it seems to be working well now, She saw her third season of Grouse and her first of ducks and geese and even throwing the magnums through her this fall, none fell out. it was strange tho...

Mine has a problem with the locking bar not engaging at times, they are good guns but parts wear out.

mine has takin a sh!t kickin and nothing has wore out. THe only problem I had was that one listed below new out of the box and the more I used it the better it got! I love the gun and I am buying new one this summer, cant beat the value for the money, and essentially, for the way its been treated (used as a paddle, butt bashed half dead birds, used as a cane, hooked on the rack of the ATV and tossed in the truck, {I know im terrible, but she got a good cleaning after every trip, and alas she is but a tool to get the job done}) I certainly cant complain!

good luck with yours!

on my 500 the only prob ive had so far is that on my forestock the action underneath slides indepnedantly from the stock i know what the problem is its the screw wheel has backed off but i dont have the right tools to fix this what do i do take it to the local simth

Same exact thing is happening with mine. I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I guess I'll just shoot it and see if it "fixes itself" and if not it's off to a gunsmith.

Goto www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTwizViM-44 this is a disassmbly video for the Mossberg 500. When you are disassembling observe the shell retaining latches , they should have a little spring to them to hold the shells in the mag tube . If they don't you could give it a VERY SLIGHT bend. Also check the tip that stops the shells, is it worn or missing, if so replace. To replace them is simple as the video shows.

took it out on saturday and put 200 target loads through it and 5 3" slugs....

No problems at all this time... wierd....

And Bearman thx for the vid buddy.

Cheers

Rob

WERE YOU USING A DIFFERENT BRAND(or same brand but more expensive model) OF AMMUNITION? Some people have problems with their shotguns when they use Winchester shot shells with the silver colored bases. The cheap stuff. Winchester slugs and buckshot have better cases and don't seem to get reported as causing problems.
