Currently I've got a Vortex strike eagle 1-6 on my 308 left over from my AR
What scope would be recommended for specifically hunting deer?
Budgets limited to around 1k

Thanks for any advice

The one you have right now seems good to me… is there a problem you see with it?
My favourite scopes are Leupold, 1.5-5, 2-7, 2.5-8, fix 4 and fix 6! I have two rifles with fixed power 4x and really enjoy them, super light and simple, good(great) eye relief, great field of view!

No I just wasn't sure on its suitability. I'm new to scopes in general and have only used it at a range and to be honest I'm not very good hitting the target lol

'Pends on how far and how your aim is. I have a cheap 3-9 'Weaver' take-off from a 'package rifle' a friend got on my 7.62x39 Ruger Ranch and get 4-5" groups. And from a bench I can get 3" groups at 180 yds with my Rem 722 in 308 with a 4-12 Bushnell DOA-BDC. The lower mag is good for 'close-ups' and 9-12 to reach out.

1-6 is lots for hunting for most people. I use a Leupold 1.5-5 on my 308 because I wanted a light scope for that rifle and have no complaints with it. I've not used anything above 2.5-8 except for a few guns.

Are you able to access the EE?
There are several scopes most suitable for your 308 to suit your needs.
Most notable are the Leupolds from 2-7 and a couple of 3-9 well under your 1k max.
Pitter patter get at 'er !

If the goal is to start reaching distances, I love calibre specific scopes.
My p-308 has a reticle that takes all the math and guesswork out of long shots all the way to 800 yards.
Honestly, 400 yards is the max distance for my ammo, then they don’t expand. Most important is finding the right ammo for your rifle. At 100 yards federal were 8” all around the bullseye. Barnes ttsx is within 1”.
However, Barnes are now 5$ a round!!!

Trust me that scope you have now on it will do all you need until you become a better shot! I use fix 4x on two rifle and can hit the 8” gong at 200m with ease! Shoot moa or better at 100m! You need to spend more time at the range and practice practice practice!!

No I tried to get access a month ago but nothing as yet

Like everyone else said, practice. Practice will also help you find the right ammo for your rifle.
Unfortunately, my round is now 5$ (Barnes 168 ttsx in 308).
It’s the only round I found that shoots MOA in my rifle.

For trigger flinch, recoil, etc, I practice using 7.62x51.
I hunt once a year, so a week before hunting I shoot 20-30 rounds of surplus to get back into the grove of using my rifle.
It also confirms it’s still sighted.

Everyone else see that Barnes doubled in price in the last 3 years?!?

I use a 3x9 on my hunting rifle 6.5x55, a fixed 4x on my 742 in .308 and a 4-16 on my bolt action .308(basically only used off of bench)

I don’t see myself buying another 4-16 ever. Only reason I got it was a guy at work only wanted $200 for an $800 scope so I jumped on the deal haha.
