Where to find decent prices for Zeiss?

Just checked cameralandny.... you realize this is a $4000 scope, right? :)

Nah, you must've looked at the wrong one; the one I'm interesed in is listed as being $1699.99 (less taxes). OpticsWarehouse has it at $1400.

Besides, these guys are in the US - wouldn't I have to get all these papers from the Dept. of Commerce and what not like it says the sticky for importing optics from there? I imagine it's not the case with the UK.

Edit: looks like silly_mike beat me to the whole "import from US" issue...

You got it.

Btw, looks like OpticsWarehouse isn't very responsive. I asked if they had the model I wanted in stock and never got a reply  (after an entire workday). Wonder how backlogged these people are... Didn't know so many people buy optics for Valentine's

i think optics warehouse are also a real shop. so might be very busy. but orders have always been super quick, normally shipped the same day. plus i think they normally have everything in stock.

plus having lived in the UK, i can tell you i have NEVER had a reply from any online store in less than 2 or 3 days. they are generally quite busy (remember the UK has double canada's population in less than once province in size)

Hi all,

The forum search seems to not be helping me on this one, so forgive me if it's already been asked: what's a good place that offers decent prices on Zeiss optics? Specifically, I'm looking to buy a Victory Diavari 3-12x56 T* with a #43 reticle (i.e. good ol' mil-dot). If it's a brick and mortar place, make sure it's in the Montreal area...

Any advice as to where to get it?

Thanks :D

You won't get a good deal in Canada. I bought my 3-12x56 Diavari in the UK and paid just over 700 Pounds Sterling. Once you claim the 17.5% VAT back at the airport and land it you've got yourself a deal at todays exchange rate. The best price I was quoted here was $2,200 before taxes. Prices here are a rip off.

Schmidt & Bender's latest tactical scope, the 5-25x56, is only 1250 Pounds Sterling once you take the VAT off, which is only $2,400 Canadian. Even once you add PST and GST plus the 8% import duty you've saved yourself well over a $1000 Canadian.

Too bad they're unresponsive - see my last post above.

Try FA Anderson in West Sussex, I've bought a couple of guns and scopes off them over the years.

They don't have any Zeiss listed but that's not to say they don't have any in stock. They do have a 2.5-10x56 Schmidt and Bender listed for 695 Pounds Sterling. Not sure how it will work in terms of claiming the VAT back if you're not there in person.

Hey that's pretty good - they seem to have the same prices as optics warehouse... Will give them a shout.

Usually, when ordering from one country to ship to another country, the dealer simply forgoes charging you the local tax(es).

BTW, wanna know something even more bizarre regarding scope pricing? I got in touch with an S&B representative to get a quote in Germany (where they're made!) for one of their scopes; guess what? Costs 50% more there than from online shops in the UK!

Try Canadian Tire on Southland Drive in Calgary. They have several Zeiss scopes, prices seem reasonable. In fact, they are clearing out the 72mm top of the line scope for $3999 which is a hell of a lot less than it used to list for.

Remember unlike Canada the prices quoted in the UK include the VAT sales tax, which is 17.5%. Once you knock the VAT off you save a further 100 Pounds Sterling on the 2.5-10x56 Schmidt and Bender scope they have listed.

In response to one of the posts about Zeiss Conquest models, you know those are US and not German made and while they have the Zeiss badge and are of reasonable quality they aren't a patch on the German made models.

What's why I went with the Victory - Deutschland über alles, right?

Has anybody actually ordered from the opticswarehouse.uk?

I'm willing to send an order with my Visa for a S&B scope, if there has actually been somebody who recived stuff (ie they're legit).
Visa states they will not charge me if I do not receive the goods.

It took them a full four weeks to get back to me on my e-mail; by then I had already found another dealer. If they give you the same treatment, try Sportsman Gun Centre and be sure to ask for Ryan, otherwise they won't know how to deal with not charging you VAT for export out of the EU.

Best of luck
