Hey guys.

I am new, so I am going to ask a dumb question.

I really, really, really want to own an AR-15 type firearm and sniper type rifle(such as SAKO TRG-22).
But not so sure if I want to spend more money(or money) to also own a regular hunting rifle.

Can I still hunt with the firearms that I mentioned above?
Will I look ridiculous to hunt with those type of rifles??:sniper:

Thanks:rockOn:

You can get yourself an AR180B, they are non restricted.
SAKO TRG-22 are non restricted as well, hunt away!.

As far as I'm concerned, the more people hunting with "scary" firearms the better!!.
I always hunt deer with my SKS, and now my CZ858 is going to take its place, 30 round mag and all.

No.
Yes.
Yes.

I suspect that given the question, your experience with hunting and firearms is limited, so I am going explain my response.

An AR-15 is a restricted rifle by law. It may only be discharged at an approved range for target practice. So no, you can't hunt with it. A non-restricted 5.56 rifle would however, be acceptable for varmint or pest control, but the bullets commonly loaded in .223 are not appropriate for big game, and most jurisdictions have restrictions against their use in that role.

The Sako TRG (and similar rifles) which are non-restricted could be used for hunting, although they would not be the first choice of most hunters. Most hunters carry their rifles more than they shoot them and at around fifteen pounds fully dressed, a rifle like the TRG is a poor choice.

And yes, unless you are a serious long range hunter, you would look silly tromping around the bush with a TRG.

This is why I'd love to hunt small game with a military carbine rifle. My stock M4 is FAR lighter than most wooden stock shotguns or bolt action hunting rifles.

I don't see why you wouldn't want to hunt with a trg-22. Go ahead.

Like others have said it's a no-go with the AR15 though.

30 round magazines for hunting? Did our firearm laws change from 5 rounds? Hope you guys are just joking around. But on a serious note what if a few members of GN are also employees of the CFC, the police, or an antigun lobby group. I'm not preaching here, just giving members something to think about when they post replys.

"...SAKO TRG-22..." Yep. It's just a bolt action rifle. Kind of heavy to lug around hunting though.
As mentioned, AR's are evil. You won't get an ATT to hunt with it.

I wonder if you can hunt with your ar on an approved range???
Anyway... I digress.

I as well have thoughts of hunting with an AR if it ever becomes legal again (it was legal not very long ago)

In the meantime , I think a CZ 858 would be a blast to hunt with, but at this time in my life, I cannot afford any guns that I do not "need"

He means thirty rounders pinned to five. Just looks scary is all. Nothing serious going on.

Thanks guys.

Yes I have very limited experience.

I didn't know ARs were restricted. I thought only the hand guns were restrcited.

I guess I should start from the range.

Thanks

Wow, that Sako looks ASPENSIVE!

*ETA* :slap::kickInTheNuts::runaway: $3,500.00 (Most likely more in CA)

 Again, I would say technically no.

AR = restricted = for target practice or collection.

Hunting is not "legitimate" use whether on an approved range or not.

Now if the animal was released as a target? Who knows? Pheasant farms are legal.

Yes, as long as it is pinned to five rounds. Whenever I say a 30 round mag on here, I mean one that is pinned to five rounds.
