Trigger lock and no key available.

I just drilled out the opening the key goes into. Drill straight through from one side to the other. The trigger lock then comes off with no damage to the firearm.
Then I bought a whole bunch of combo trigger locks.

If it is stalled tight as designed and fits on the trigger guard properly you have to drill it out... no big deal.
Screwdrivers and butter knives will just mark up the trigger guard.

Just get a basic set of lockpicks and watch a short youtube video how to do raking technique.. It takes like 30 seconds to open basic locks with it.

2 sets of vise grips , one on each side and twist in opposite directions, works every tune!

These two methods destroys the lock for no good reason ... especially if you just left the keys at home.

There are very quick and easy ways of opening those trigger locks that do not also destroy the lock.

Thanks guys for the help. I will try drilling it first. Dave

Honestly the flat head screwdriver method is way easier and considerably less risky.

Meh.

YouTube Lockpickinglawyer, and spend a few minutes making some picks.

Spend a little time looking at the stuff that passes for "Security" and you will come away understanding that even most of the really expensive locks, are mostly keeping the Honest, the lazy, and the stupid, from going where they damn well please.

Watch a few Deviant Ollam videos on so called security in commercial spaces, as well as hacking RFID pass badges, and you will wonder why anyone bothers to put locks on the doors...

Gut the lock you took off. Take the pins and springs out of the keyway, and keep using it, without ever needing more than a pointy stick to open it. Or a screwdriver. Or an actual key. But without the worry of having to find the 'right' one!

Thats an interesting idea. "Comply" without actually complying. Constructive incompetence. ;)
