Last Shipment of Type 81 SR

There is not much testing available for the Type 81 in regards to ammo but lot's for the AK. Ammo can play a major role in accuracy. Not much selection available in Canada and with Barnaul gone, nothing I would trust for accuracy.

Norma & RUAG come top of mind.

Hand loading if one is adventurous.

Did yours ship yet? Mine hasn’t and I ordered when you did I think.

Mine shipped late last week and it was supposed to be delivered Monday according to the package tracking but it's still not here. ETA has been "by end of day" since Monday, typically CP.

I can reload, just don't feel like doing it right now, lol. Also not enough space. I have Ruag (casings flying all over so not too optimistic), red Norinco and a bunch of corrosive of all sorts. I like the Barnaul but didn't pull the trigger buying enough. Have plenty of 223 in Barnaul but there are many other options, I prefer the Fiocchi in 223.

Ordered October 5th, nothing yet other than a firearms transfer email on the 6th.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was something wrong with my order--like something is sold out or missing or some other -insert clerical/logistical error here-

Out of the other two orders I placed, both had logistical/clerical issues. It'll be really disappointing if they're 3 for 3...

Was a very rare issue, affecting less then 1% of rifles, that we replaced immediately if it came up... regardless all rifles now come with gen 2 stocks that solve potential for issue and they are available free of charge to existing owners

So, in my naivety I didn't realize that when Tactical Imports said the rifles come with gen 2 stocks, they didn't mean they come with the gen 2 stocks installed.

Anyone else's come like this or did I just get a rifle from the last batch? In case, yes there is still a "Screw Required".

Also the wood on the forend is indeed misaligned and it looks like there's a shim kit required for me in the future in the future because the timing for muzzle brake leaves it pretty sloppy, would have been nice if that was included.

So, for anyone else with an SR.
What colour is your bolt? On the other t81 I have handled the bolts are nicely finished the same matte silver as the carrier, on this example it's blued which I find unusual. And not as desirable.

The bolt/carrier was also quite stiff to pull out of the reciever even when lined up perfectly with the cutouts, but it's loosening up after doing it a few times. Still, was *really* tight initially.

Also how's everyone installing their flashhiders/muzzle brakes?

I'd say the first batch of SR was nicer. To install the flash hider, you just push the small button on top of the protector, cap so you can unscrew it, same way in with the flash hider or muzzle brake.

Yes, the gen 2 stock comes with it. The pins on the stock are a biatch to get out but they do eventually. Had to use a heavy sledge hammer to drive them out, seriously, not for the faint of heart. Did not experience this on other type 81.

You cannot "convert" the SR to a standard SE, the barrel is longer, the gas block is differently placed, so the handguard is different.

You can convert the stock to accept AR stocks with a Sigmaco adapter.

But keep in mind that the SR will probably be the lowest produced type 81, so future price gains are very likely.

Nicer in what way specifically?

I understand how to remove/install the flash hider, my problem is that the timing on the brake is 1/3 rotation off and the flash hider even when I crank it into the last notch it can feasibly reach still have a lot of play in it.

Loose muzzle devices are quite counterproductive to accuracy, so I'm curious what everyone else is doing to have them fit properly.

Well no, but they *do* need to not wiggle from side to side, it's pretty loose even "locked" into the last possible notch.

The brake certainly does and that's what I'll be running but I did get both.

I got a SR from the first batch and it has a blued bolt as well. I sandwiched in a crush washer thus making the detent redundant.

Has anyone tried Lapua brand ammo through their gun?

Tesro has it.

I could take one for the team, I want some more Hornady Black, I only have one box of it and it seems to be sold out a lot of places.
Ditto for the RAUG.

What I'd really like more of is some of the Barnaul 196gr to play around with for fun. When people say this gun is in the "wrong caliber" I agree whole heartedly, it should be in 9x39mm and have a can on it. :p
