Metis Harvester's Card

This was at Fort William (Thunder Bay) in the early 1800's, Sandwich Islands = Hawaii. Thunder Bay is a long ways from BC and there was at least one Hawaiian there.

"On inquiry, I ascertained that the aggregate number of the persons in and about the establishment was composed of natives of the following countries : viz. England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Switzerland, United States of America, the Gold Coast of Africa, the Sandwich Islands, Bengal, Canada, with various tribes of Indians, and a mixed progeny of Creoles, or half-breeds. What a strange medley !—Here were assembled, on the shores of this inland sea, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, sun-worshippers, men from all parts of the world, and whose creeds were " wide as the poles asunder," united in one common object, and bowing down before the same idol."

Your ignorance is showing. The fur trade in the Northwest was run from Fort Vancouver (Washington State) and Fort Victoria (Vancouver Island), supplies and communication were by Sea and Hawaiians were an intergral part of it. The HBC even had a Post in Hawaii.

The NorthWest company (based in Montreal) operated in BC. No, my ignorance is not showing.

The Northwest Company (NWC), based in Montréal, successively dispatched explorers Alexander Mackenzie, Simon Fraser and David Thompson to search for a passage through the mountains. The company’s intention was to find an efficient route connecting central Canada to the Pacific Coast, thereby expanding its trading territory. These three anglophone names are widely associated with the origins of modern British Columbia. The success of their expeditions, however, relied in large part on the work of guides, paddlers and interpreters performed by employees of the NWC. For the most part, these workers were francophones, hired in Montréal before being sent west. They included French Canadians, as well as Métis, Iroquois and members of other Aboriginal communities who spoke French and had participated in earlier trading expeditions on the Canadian Prairies.

To say that there were more Hawaiians than francophones in BC is beyond ridiculous.

In the Columbia District centered around Fort Vancouver, fully half of the men were from Hawaii, at Fort Stikine it was the same. There were hundreds of Hawaiians in the employ of the HBC. It's just modern day fantasy that there were a significant number of Frenchmen in BC. And there were actual documented Hawaiian communities on the coast.

There's even a Kanaka Bar Indian Band, Kanaka being Hawaiians.

And there's the classic race card draw, as expected. Nice try though, while the rest of us white settlers go about paying for our kids post secondary education via RESP rather than a Metis/indigenous grant.

That comment had nothing to do with race. Get that chip off your shoulder. Also wtf? This whole argument started about weirdos asking about Metis existing before white people came here and now you are going off about schooling? Lmao

My ex was Salish and white, her great grandmother was Hawaiian

Big population on SSI in the day, part of a triangle trade, VI, Hawaii, China. Salt, salmon, furs and ceramics iirc

One of the first guys to run the Columbia River was a Hawaiian, think he was with a Frenchman an English man in charge and a Iroquois hanging out. People got around during the fur trade

A lot of Hawaiians were involved in whaling as well, they got around.

Grizz

Why are tuition fees paid for, along with room and board and a payout for just enrolling? Why are there lower LSAT score requirements for Metis/Status? There's no chip on my shoulder, I'm all for equality, but apparently some can't measure up, so they need a free ride. I don't see that as something positive, I'd be insulted. Entitlement........

That has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation. On the first or second page people made stupid remarks about if it's ok to ask if Metis existed before Europeans came here. From there the argument has completely devolved in to sh!t throwing.

As stated before, my previous comment YOU quoted had nothing to do with a race card being pulled. I'm interested to see what you bring up next.

This whole topic is race based.
