Hi
I was at my local gun shop looking at the used rack and
Saw a savage model 170 pump action 30-30 are these
Particularly rare I have seen bolt action 30-30 years ago
Just never seen a pump they wanted $850 for it

Just curious if anyone has much knowledge/info on it

Thanks

Jamming pile of junk and far overpriced at $850. Iirc, these were pretty much modelled after a savage pump shotgun and available in .30-30and .35 rem. The problems have been almost exclusive to the 30-30 rifles due to the cartridge's rimmed case not feeding properly. They are fairly common in 30-30 but much less so in .35

Thanks for the heads up I don’t think this one will make it home with me
Turns out this particular Gun was on consignment and from what the other sales person told me
It has been there for a few months

$850 is wishful thinking. The 170 never amounted to much as was a poor marketing decision when Remington offered the 760 probably the best pump hunting rifle ever made. Plus the Rem handled much more powerful rounds and was and is super reliable as long as you work the action smartly with considerable force.

The CIL is a Savage.

I had one, thought it might be a handy .30-30. Jam-o-matic. Sold it as-is with full disclosure.

Mentioned above that the .35s worked. May be, I've never handled one. If the .35 works reliably, one would make a dandy deer rifle.

Thanks you took the words right of my mouth possibly the worst rifle ever made

I sold one that looked like it had just come out of the box. I recall reading an article about the 170. Some gunsmiths actually refused to work on them.
